I called our store ( A WOTC network store) and asked if they were in. I was told that they won't be selling them until Dec 9th because the boxes are labeled that way.  I am very bummed

I'll be getting mine in about 6 hours, as long as either of the nearby stores have them and I don't go homicidal from dealing with Black Friday shoppers. Today is a day I'd normally become a total hermit and not even go out for food so WotC should feel honored

Apparently my flgs didn't get any in before today because of thanksgiving, but might have them showing up later... sort of amazed at how annoyed that makes me.

Here's what I wrote on EnWorld forum.   There are a lot of really nice additions in the DMG.

Usually when D&D core products are released, the DMG is the one that I least like to read even though I don the DM mantle most frequently. This time around, the book is so chocked with goodies, and it is so nicely written, I think I'll spend more time reading it than any of the other books. The amount of interesting charts, advice, options, ideas for consideration, shifts my mind into imagination overdrive. Not only are there options, but the options themselves inspire me to create other options that would work in my own campaign. I can only hope that others feel the same creative charge.

While I was reading the section about world building, my son came over to check it out too. The ideas and information contained within the book immediately captured his attention, not only for the creative possibilities, but also because it presented information about religious and governmental systems that really interested him (a young history buff). When I was growing up, I remember reading 1e books, which to this day I believe helped me learn vocabulary and build my world knowledge. This book seems to provide that same "education" for younger people who read it for the first time. That's awesome. Great work WotC.

Three little tidbits I enjoy for options:

1) The proficiency die from the early playtest package is an option instead of proficiency bonus (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 depending on level - roll the die instead of flat bonus).

2) There is an option for Hero Points to make PCs feel more heroic/epic fantasy.  Gain 5 + 1/2 level Hero points per day.   Use them to add 1d6 to an attack, ability check or saving throw, and if a PC fails a death save, using a hero point turns it to a success.

3) Cleaving through Creatures - Excess melee damage after reducing a foe to 0 hp can be applied to an adjacent foe if the original roll to hit would have hit the adjacent creature.

There is also a great table that gives guidelines for monsters level 0 through 30 (much like the ones that Surf13 posted).

So ventured out and got mine about 2 hours ago. Overall traffic ended up not being worse than a usual Friday though the store was a bit busier than usual (since they're mostly board games and puzzles). Mall area traffic was more stupid than usual which says a lot for this area Haven't gotten through too much of it and mostly skimming headers to get a feel for the type of content in the book while watching 80's tv shows So far get a feeling for the old TSR era DMGs that I prefered over the 3-4e edition DMGs.

1e DMG had that great Gygax writing. BECMI and B/X had incredibly tight writing that hasn't been matched in a D&D product. But the 5e book is a fantastic distillation and truly puts the word Guide in Dungeon Master's Guide. It's not a Rule book; it's a Guide book.

Ok, so I have my PHB, MM and DMG. I want my DM Screen so I can have full satisfaction.

The screen is scheduled for release January 20. Does anyone know if this will also be released early at premiere stores? Would that be January 9th?

This is the first book I didn't purchase on the day of the early release. When Space Hulk 4th edition was released in September, it re-fueled my love for that game and I bought the new edition and have been playing it a lot since.

I also haven't spent as much time in the PHB and MM as I wanted to yet, so I figured I'd wait and save a few dollars by ordering the DMG from Amazon on the normal release date this time.
