A couple of those (Whip, Net, Hand Crossbow) have been moved to Martial weapons, and but there's an entire sub-category still missing: Double Weapons.
Weapons like the Double Sword (a Longsword on each end with a handle connecting them in the middle), Double Axe (same, but with Battleaxes), Quarterstaff (which they just removed the whole concept from), Urgosh (Axe on one end, Spear on the other), and such. Some of these hold a special place in my group's history, like my friend's character who became a master of tripping while weilding a Double Scythe (I thought we got the idea from Eberron, but now I can't find it) to trip people for his first attack each turn, then attacked them with his second action, once they were prone (decreased AC when prone), and also got an attack of opportunity on them when they tried to stand up on their turn.
Double weapons (in particular the Double Sword) have even been placed in D&D branded video games, like Neverwinter Nights. So I'm wondering, are Exotic Weapons making a return in the DMG? Or are we left to homebrew these awesome items? (I'd assume a Double Sword would still do damage as a Longsword for each end, allowing you to technically get around the Dual Weilder feat by burning a proficiency and spending a lot of gold, cause these weapons were always on the expensive end.)
Here's a link to a list of some double weapons that existed in 3.5 Edition. I can homebrew them if I have to, but I hope the DMG gives us a good roundup of weapons the PHB forgot. |
