What I can say is that we have at least 100 testers in the iOS beta currently that can attest to DungeonScape’s existence.

I'm surprised they lead with iOS over the web app, which could work on all platforms.

They've added Disqus for blog comments - seems to work quite well if you sign up for it.

On one hand I am very pleased to see a purchase to own model (rather then the previous purchase to rent model)

On the other hand what are the chances that they want to charge full book retail for it?

iOS first?  That is baffling...

I'm confused how someone can be more comfortable writing apps for iOS and not for the Web, which has been around for *longer* than iOS *and* has a much larger target audiance.

Dedicating resources to iOS is a huge disappointment, but kudos for Apple fans. But more important choosing an indepedent application platform that can be used for mobile and desktop would appear to be the preferred development path.

So tell me why this app wasn't ready when 5ed droped.

I have to say I'm stunned WotC went and made the same mistake they did for 4e and not have this ready out of the gate...or at least with a set release date if they wanted all three core books out first

Lets be as clear as we can get someone not pointing fingers droped the ball on this. The app should have in development right alongside the PHB there is no excuse. For it to just now go into beta the product should be getting it's first patches and updates.

They got in over their head and are playing catch up. Pretty common for smaller companies.

The eTools from Codemonkeys for 3.x was a very good program.  Kind of bloaty, but I blame that on the technology of the time for the programming.

I think they should get those guys back to make the new tools.  Or get the guys at Hero Lab to work on it.  Heck, I already have a subscription of Hero Lab for 4e.  I'd be more than happy to buy an official 5e package on there as well.

AD&D Core Rules CD was a great product for its time and I'd personally be happy with something in that vein.

The more complicated they make something the more problems they seem to have.

Lone Wolf Dev(the Hero Lab guys) are a .NET company so they're not really qualified to do a cross platform app. Plus I'm pretty sure they're really swamped working on their Realm Works application. I know they were several months back when WoTC was probably shopping around. I wouldn't be at all surprised if WoTC did talk to them but it didn't work out due to requirements and workload.

With Trapdoor it just really sounds like they don't have a ton of experience and that bit them in the ass with the time deadlines. Commiting to an Android app without an Android dev on staff bit them in the ass and it sounds like they re-invented some wheels with the UI auth and cloud functions rather than just picking something like Qt for the UI and working around S3 for storage. And stuff like auth probably had some WoTC requirements(work with our website) which probably threw a lot of wrenches in the works.

But the app so far looks pretty decent. It'll be slow to come out, but it'll get there.

Well how much of an idiot Thank_Dog really is does not change the fact that we need to see the finished product before complaining about it.

One positive is that this is much more information then we usually get.

I'm not sure why people were expecting to get a companion program based on the published books at the same time as the published books.

It was already tough enough for Kobold Press to release adventures for a game that had monster and rules changes all the way up to where they had to send it to a publisher.

I'm looking forward to the release and hope to get some time in the beta before it goes live to see if I want to buy it.

Well, at this point, I hope they are working on web/android if and when I get into the beta since I don't use an Apple product.

I'm suprised this was not mentioned on the boards yet (that I've seen)

The beta is about to start.

It's first sign up, first invite, so I'm glad I signed up on the first day.
