So, checking things out over at EN World, I noticed the following in the release schedule for 5th Edition:

  • D&D Adventurer's Handbook (March 17, 2015; hardcover accessory; $39.95) -- "Create Heroic Characters to Conquer the Elements in this Accessory for the World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game. Not inherently evil, elemental power can be mastered by those with both malevolent and benign intentions. The Elemental Evil Adventurer’s Handbook provides everything that players need to build a character that is tied directly into the Elemental Evil story arc, with skills, abilities, and spells meant to augment their play experience throughout the campaign. Additionally, valuable background and story information provides greater depth and immersion. An accessory that expands the number of options available for character creation for the Elemental Evil story arc, providing expanded backgrounds, class builds, and races meant specifically for this campaign. Provides background and setting information critical to having the greatest chance of success."

It mentions new backgrounds, class builds, races, abilities, spells, and... Skills? I'm guessing they just mean new uses for the current skills, but it's mentioned at the same time as abilities and spells - Which makes me think they might actually have new skills involved in the story arc. I'm mostly curious about thoughts on the matter, or clarification if anyone has it.

If a 3rd party wants my cash, they need to make a good warlord class that fits in well with the 5thedtion system and has subclasses that fit all the different sytles of warlord. That might be a little hard because the warlord had a variety of builds. This is one of the biggest disapointments of 5th( the battlemaster doesnt even come close) and I would spend some cash on that.

It's officially licenced. So it's 2nd Party.

The theme of this AP is elemental, so I think we can reasonably hope for a new sorcerer bloodline, fire/earth/water/air domains, and/or a warlock patron (genie pact).  An elemental adaptation feat would fit the 5e "big feat" mold.  I wouldn't turn down an elemental barbarian either.

I'm not sold. Dragonspear Cadtle had a connection to the Temple of Elemental Evil abd this premise sounds similar to Hoard of the Dragon queen, however I'd happily buy this expansion.

It would be more logical to just call it Elemental Pact and just let the player choose what creature they're serving; e.g., fire = ifrit, fire titan, fire primordial, air = djinn, storm titan, and so on. Instead of making different pacts for different creatures. Anyway, I wouldn't mind a new class, maybe a Ranger, that would be like an elemental soulknife: like, form weapons out of whatever elements are nearby. Suck fire out of a torch to make a flame arrow, draw up the earth at your feet to make a stony spear, draw water from the air or from a waterskin to make an ice sword, etc.

As long as the elemental pact warlock gets a mephit as a familiar, all will be well.  I do like the elemental ranger too--nice description Chameleon-X.
