Proposed Fix: Instead of re-rolling a 1 or a 2, you can re-roll a 1, 2, or 3.
When comparing d8+2 vs. d10 with this method, the d10 is only slightly better (avg damage 6.55 vs. 6.5) so I don't see a big balance issue.

| #4UchawiSep 02, 2014 7:35:09 | I would just change the damage to 3-12 and skip the re-roll. But I am not a big fan of adding more dice to the game for any given roll. |
| #5Eric888Sep 02, 2014 14:59:04 | This seems extraordinarily frivolous. Do you want your houserules to need a binder?
IF you pick this specific weapon with this specific class feature, even though there are much better weapons to use with that class feature, we should have a special addendum to make it better than another class feature you could choose instead.
Pass. |

| #7MistwellSep 02, 2014 16:05:28 | Don't fix things that are not broken. |
| #8Jell_MooSep 02, 2014 16:19:54 | I'm not entirely sure why this needs a fix... If I use Dueling with a short sword instead of a rapier or longsword I do less damage too. Some weapons are just better choices for specific roles. |
| #9souldoubtSep 02, 2014 21:09:25 | Why would you ever use a battleaxe with Great Weapon Fighting? |
| #10DemoMonkeySep 03, 2014 7:32:43 | The only "problem" IMO with great weapon fighting is that a high level fighter with a great sword is going to take noticeably longer with their turns because of all the rerolls they will be doing.
This suggestion does not fix that problem. |
| #11Caliburn101.Sep 03, 2014 8:18:40 | GWF should just be; -2 total 'dice steps' to the weapon's damage die/dice (for instance, d12 becomes d8, 2d6 becomes 2d4 etc.) + add 1d4
So Greatsword would do 3d4 damage, Greataxe 1d8+1d4 damage, 2H Longsword 1d6+1d4 damage, etc.
That way it avoids re-rolls, bumps minimum damage but offers increased normal critical damage unlike a static bonus.
This still leaves the Barbarian go-to weapon as Greataxe but means lower spike numbers, but it does the same to Champion, so this works OK balance-wise I feel. |

| #13DraconesSep 03, 2014 11:13:53 | Just allow players to reskin weapon stats. Ex/ Allow great axe stats for great swords and vice versa.
Problem solved. |

| #16GwarhSep 03, 2014 12:35:11 | A simple tweek to buff up Great Weapon/2-Handed fighting is to double the STR bonus when weilding a weapon two-handed.
I can't recall if that was a rule in a previous/recent version of D&D or another RPG but it give a wee boost to the dmg output when weilding a weapon with 2 hands, and is easy to remember/impliment. |
