I create little tools like these to make my life easier because I can and because it's fun. To me, at least, it beats the heck out of slogging manually through the tables included in the DMG. The application is free, and is intended as a general utility for DMs. I hope you find it useful.

How did you determine what spell a scroll is of, just have the RNG "roll 1d46" or whatever for each level of spell? I ask because I am wondering if it is weighted towards particular sorts of scrolls (like AD&D and 3.5 where 'arcane' scrolls where more than twice as likely to find than 'divine' scrolls).
Edit to add: One other question... why have the drop-down menu list out each possible CR in the game rather than only list the 4 possible tables by CR range (i.e. 0-4, 5-10, 11-16, and 17+)? |

| #6Daydreamer80Dec 07, 2014 8:24:55 | The only weighting im aware of when it comes to scrolls level's etc, is there rarirty by spell level. With cantrips, level 1 being common, and level 9 being legendary for example.
Over all this looks like a really handy tool. Basically, this program you have designed accurately mimics dice? if one where to roll for themselves?
If you wanted to weight scroll rarirty, here is a simple heuristic you could use. I would tend towards common (level 1, cantrips) for tier 1, tier2 for uncommon, tier 3 for rare, tier 4 for very rare, tier 5 for legendary.
With a lower probably of going 1 direction either way. So a level 5 party gets a scroll, it will most likely be uncommon, with a chance for it being rare, or common.
A level 1 party finds a scroll, most likely its common, with a decent chance for uncommon.
At any rate, still an excellent tool, thanks for putting it together.

And ya, i just wanted to make sure it matched the probabilities that a dice set would generate. Less concerned about the magic computer vodoo that does it.

| #9LeugrenDec 07, 2014 11:00:56 | When displaying magic items in the generated results, I decided to include the name of the magic item table that the item was selected from. This makes it easier for users to customize the output by replacing specific results with others from the same magic item table if they desire to do so. For instance, if the following magic item shows up in your results and you don't like it, you can simply go to MAGIC ITEM TABLE I in the DMG and select a different item of comparable worth and rarity. Hammer of thunderbolts (MAGIC ITEM TABLE I) I didn't bother to do this with gemstones and art objects since their worth is listed in the results which tells you immediately which table they came from.
Cheers! |

| #12Daydreamer80Dec 07, 2014 13:07:07 | I also look forward to the NPC generator. Please if you can include the death domain cleric, and oathbreaker paladin from the DMG.
Edit: As an aside i was using your generator currently, and it seems to be giving me the same treasure results over and over. Presumably not intended? Do i need to like clear my history between each roll ? |
