| #1warpigletOct 23, 2014 17:49:56 | I am pumped about 5e. Several elements really appeal to me. One feature I hoped for (and got) was a simplification of creatures facilitating more "on the fly" all night unplanned adventuring. I also enjoy the revealed (to date) handling of magic. I like them to be mysterious and not easily obtained at a shop.
Likewise, I am excited about many other features but am curious about what others find exciting about 5e.... |
| #2LawolfOct 23, 2014 18:38:51 | Things I like about 5e:
*Faster combat (until level 15+) *advantage instead of a plethora of bonuses and penalties (IMHO there are too many spells that give +X bonuses) *Concentration *Short Rests |
| #3ZardnaarOct 23, 2014 18:55:59 | THe smaller number spread even if it does crreate some flow on effects and it is easier to run as a DM. Being easier to run triumphs some of the things I do not like about 5E like the healing rate. |
| #4Angel7Oct 23, 2014 20:01:17 | I like the more flexible neo-vancian magic system, mega-feats, bounded accuracy, magic items returning to the control of the DM, skill proficiency without endless point buy, the advantage/disadvantage mechanic, and the fact that I now want to play just about every character class. |
| #5bawylieOct 23, 2014 20:06:09 | Seriously, I've warmed on Neo-vancian, quite a bit. |
| #6pukunuiOct 23, 2014 23:26:31 | Features I really enjoy:
- The evocative descriptions of the classes and subclasses - The advantage/disadvantage mechanic - Proficiency (not just the "bounded accuracy" effect but also the fact that it's based on character level rather than class level, which makes multiclassing much less painful) - The concentration mechanic - Backgrounds - The trinket table

| #7AaronOfBarbariaOct 23, 2014 20:55:20 | -Spellcasting system -Concentration as a limiter -The 3 magic item attunement limit -Advantage/Disadvantage -The systematic disincentivization of dump stats -Also everything else. |

| #44AaronOfBarbariaOct 25, 2014 17:13:21 | I am going to go ahead and say that I disagree - a Fighter absolutely can effectively shape the battle around him. A fighter can lock down enemies. A fighter can deal with large groups of enemies. A fighter is highly mobile.
And a Fighter does do single target damage very well too.
Now, is the fighter the best at any one of those things? Probably not.
Luckily you don't have to be the best at something to be good enough at it. |
| #45DaveDashOct 25, 2014 17:27:50 | This is the first edition where I have wanted to try most of the classes. |

| #49AaronOfBarbariaOct 25, 2014 18:26:00 | Lawolf, I disagree with you.
Fighters are plenty capable, as are the other classes, but all classes do better when in a mixed group. So your "Nope" to me saying that is just wrong - you are commenting on that you felt that other classes could do a single class party better than fighters, which is a different thing entirely, and is also completely irrelevant. |

| #52DaveDashOct 25, 2014 19:03:53 | I've put the numbers into a spreadsheet, and Fighters blow away all other classes at single target damage at level 20, given one short rest. Given more than one short rest they are so far ahead of other classes for damage done during the day it's no contest. I'm talking factors of 2:1. |
| #53SterlingRatOct 25, 2014 19:18:00 | Sorry my comment caused a distraction from the topic. I like the higher value of magic items, too. |
