Gnome greater deity Garl Glittergold is given the sole portfolio as gnomish god of Trickery. Fine enough, he is the patron deity of tricksters, pranksters and illusionists, something gnomes are legendary for. But why Lawful Good? Since when is deception, illusion, trickery, lies, pranks, and goofing around considered lawful? If anything, it's Chaotic Annoying.
The earlier editions of D&D/AD&D got it right to begin with: Gnomes are (generally) Neutral Good as a race (with the exception of evil and neutral gnomes who want to break with their society), and Garl was listed as Neutral Good. He resides in the Plane of Bytopia (Twin Paradises) which is one of the Neutral Good planes. Why peg him as Lawful Good in 5e? Makes zero sense considering that his portfolio says "Trickery".
I'd like to see this considered for Errata hopefully. It would be a minor correction that won't do much to alter the already-published DMG and the ruleset. |

(Especially as he's also listed as LG in AD&D 1e) 3) When I look up Garl in my 5e PHB, I notice that one of the columns reads Suggested domains. Do you know what the word suggested means? Anyways: Are you the DM? Then consider Garls alignment changed. Are you a player? If so petition your DM. |

But I agree, a Lawful Trickster? Unless he ALWAYS tricks you (the law of trickery?) NG would be the better fit. |
| #4Brock_LandersFeb 24, 2015 14:01:06 | He has always been LG (as far as I know), and gnomes have a serious presence on Bytopia. Being LG does not preclude trickery. |

| #9cassi_brazucaFeb 24, 2015 19:24:44 | Well the "Dawn War" table in D&D 5e DMG is seriously flawed in alignment. And they didn’t even explain what is that war. Or explain anything, really. I saw the same level of information in other tables, but this one was left for the DMG, which is already bad as it is. |

Garl's like Deadpool - he went fourth wall and modified the DMG. |
