Gauntlets of Ogre Power/LMoP

Oh well we completed LMoP the other day and my light cleric ended up with 3 magic items. Almost all of the tiems were for stuff other PCs did not want.

+1 Breastplate that gives advantage on breath weapons.

Lightbringer +1 Mace, sheds light +1s6 damage vs undead.

Gauntlets of Ogre Power

At level 4 I had an AC of 19 and +5 to hit in melee for 1d8+2. After I got the items I had +8 to hit inn melee for 1d8+5 damage. The dexterity based PCs did not need the Gauntlets and neither did the strength based PCs as they all had 18s or so in the relevent ability scores.

My AC did not change as I was using splint mail, the breastplate armor doesn't have disadvantage on stealth checks and is lighter and we are going on a naval exploration cruise via a map we found to El Dorado apparently. I was the only one using maces and medium armor and the only one in the party who used physical attacks without an 18 in their prime anyway.

So anyway all the items combined gave me a +3 to hit and damage bonus and I went from meh at melee combat to slightly less meh as the others are still out damaging me by a large margin. The gauntlets may have been slightly bettewr going to a PC who took a feat at level 4 who did nto take a stat boost. At level 8 I was planning on not using weapons anymore for the most part anyway.

Not sure how to really break the gauntlets without

A. The DM telling you that there will be gauntlets handed out and tyhat your PC will get them

B. Metagaming using your PCs during creation if you know about the gauntlets being in LMoP.

For example I could have made my strength 12 and con 14 as I knew we were doing LMoP and I knew the gauntlets were in the adventure. I did not know where they were in the adventure, how to find them and if my PC would be the one to end up with them. Also being a light cleric melee is not really my thing anyway as I nrmally buff and burn, melee is normally a distraction using the flare ability to try and lure damage way from other PCs.

So for around 3 levels I get a boost at something I was hardly doing anyway although +2 on strength saves might be nice. The DM has also said to not expect much in the way of cleric type items as I have 1-2 magic items more than most of the party.

The only thing i can think of is to go Dex, and if you pick up gauntlets, switch to Str.

That's what my bard inadvertenly did.  He had a crossbow and raiper.  Now he's got a mace and axe.

Maybe stop metagaming your character's stats so much.

Maybe stop being obsessed with to hit numbers.

Maybe just roleplay your character and have fun playing the storyline in LMoP (which is a great story!).

A little off topic but I find it amusing the Adventure League lets you rebuild your character once at 4th level, right around when you may pick up these gauntlets in what is quite possibly the most played module in the league!

Amusingly enough the next adventure that is often played after....your gear is stripped from you!
