| #1Chameleon-XMar 15, 2015 17:54:33 | I don't know about anyone else, but I was fairly underwhelmed by the Genasi. Other than the Fire Genasi and (to a lesser extent) the Water Genasi, I thought the race as a whole was disappointingly weak, especially when compared to their 4e manifestation. As such, I thought I would present my own take on them, in hopes that WotC may consider giving them a bit of a facelift in the future.
EDIT: Changed these around to take some suggestions into consideration. GenasiAbility Score Increase: +1 Intelligence Age: Genasi mature at about the same rate as humans and reach adulthood in their late teens. They live somewhat longer than humans do, up to 120 years.
FiresoulAbility Score Increase: +2 Strength Fire Resistance: You have resistance to fire damage. Darkvision: You can see in dim light as if it were bright light, and darkness as if it were dim light, to a radius of 60ft. Your ties to the Elemental Plane of Fire make your darkvision unusual: everything you see is in a shade of red. Fire Pulse: When you are hit by an attack by a creature you can see, you may use your reaction to cast the Fire Bolt cantrip at that creature. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for it. You do not have disadvantage on the attack for having a hostile creature within 5 feet of you. Once you use this trait, you must finish a short or long rest before you can do so again. EarthsoulAbility Score Incease: +2 Constitution Earthen Resilience: You have a +2 bonus to any saving throw you make on your turn. Earthwalk: You can move across difficult terrain made of earth or rock without expending extra movement. Earth Shock: As a bonus action, you may slam the ground to create a powerful quake. Each creature within 5 feet of you must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or fall prone. The DC is equal to 8 + your Proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier. Once you use this trait, you must finish a short or long rest before you can do so again. StormsoulAbility Score Increase: +2 Charisma Stormborn Resistance: You have resistance to lightning damage. Lightning Speed: Your speed increases by 5ft. Wrath of the Storm: As a bonus action, you may use this trait to channel the power of lightning and thunder from within you. The next attack you make before the end of your next turn deals 2d8 extra lightning or thunder damage (your choice). Once you use this trait, you must finish a short or long rest before you can do so again. WatersoulAbility Score Increase: +2 Wisdom Acid Resistance: You have resistance to acid damage. Aquatic: You have a swim speed of 30ft, and you can breathe water as well as air. Swift Current: When you use the Dash action, you may use this trait to transform into a wave of water. During this action you ignore difficult terrain, may pass through enemy spaces, and may pass over liquid surfaces as if they were normal ground. You may also pass through any gap which is not water tight. At the end of your Dash action, you resume your normal humanoid form. Once you use this trait, you may not do so again until you finish a short or long rest. WindsoulAbility Score Increase: +2 Dexterity Cold Resistance: You have resistance to cold damage. Unending Breath: You can hold your breath indefinitely as long as you are not incapacitated. Wind Walk: When you begin a move, you may use this trait to gain a fly speed of 30ft. until the end of your next turn. You may also hover during this time. If you are still flying at the end of your next turn, you float gently to the ground . Once you use this trait, you may not do so again until you finish a short or long rest. |

They should have left them the way they looked in 4th edition. |
| #6GuntharMar 16, 2015 7:51:33 | Yeah, Genasi were the next chance 5E had to get me truly excited about the game and, once again, they fell flat. |
| #7NevvurMar 16, 2015 11:23:26 | Their abilities and class features don't bring anything new to the table, but they open up new avenues for storytelling. Granted, a character's origin story can be as fascinating or dull as the player behind it can create, regardless of race. Still, having a genie for a dad is pretty out there. It's what the Genasi bring to the table story-wise that's important, not their racial mechanics. If the only thing you care about is their perks, I understand why you feel underwhelmed. |
| #8rampantMar 16, 2015 15:08:32 | Ok i think you need to reconsider the leveld spells for a couple of reasons.
1.) I do not like the hjigher level racial powers. If a race is balanced with the powers they get at 1st level then the extra powers are OP, if they aren't then the race is UP until they get it. Expecially since you've replaced most of the genasi powers with scaling abilities so that unlike the packet genasi their inital abilities arne't becoming less useful as they level up.
2.) Earthen resistance is both potent, and overspecialized, for a racial ability. Consider instead a universal reduction of 1 or 2 that increases at levels 8 and 15. That way you'r not just screwing wepaon users, it's not armor dependent, and you're not focing high constiution on every member of the race that wants to use their powers.
3.) The spell casting in general should probably allow them to pick their casting attribute for racial powers from a list of three stats (int/wis/cha).
4.) If you're going to keep the leveld spells then stop gimping the wind soul or lett him cast it as an encouter power. Also have them scale up with level so that they may cast it at an appropriate level (maybe not all the way up to 9th level but at least 4th or 5th if you're gonna make them spend an action). |

| #10NozareemMar 16, 2015 18:29:10 | Having Con as their primary stat killed the idea of me playing a Genasi! Should have been Int or Cha which works with the flavor of their race Con as primary was a very dumb idea....."way to go WOTC, yeah!" |

| #15GuntharMar 18, 2015 10:29:29 | With the 4E version, the mechanics and fluff actually meshed much better. The Watersoul could become relatively aqueous for a short period of time, the Earthsoul could cause a minor, localized tremor, etc. They had an inherent atunement with the element they manifested. |
