| #1Judd_of_KryosSep 03, 2014 9:07:22 | I wrote up the Githyanki as a PC race on my blog and was looking for some feedback.
Thanks for reading.

I don't think mind-control and psionic are actual descriptors, consider advanage on saves vs. the charmed effect, or effects with charmed as a component, much more useful against the mind-controllers, and won't become a hugely op ability later if psionic classes get introduced.
Also the psionic powers are just too much for an uninvested racial power, consider a more potent up front ability and then make a feat they can take later for the high end stuff, also the basic power shouldn't be exclusively linked to intelligence. |
| #3AlHazredSep 03, 2014 11:14:10 | I like it, but it looks a little unbalanced - it has too many spells. I would use something like this in my game: Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Intelligence score increases by 1. Language. You speak Draconic and the secret language of Gith. Draconic Pact. Whenever you make a Charisma (Persuasion) check against a red dragon, you are considered to be proficient in the Persuasion skill and add double your proficiency bonus to the check, instead of your normal proficiency bonus. Psionic Resistance. You have advantage on saving throws against spells or effects that impose the charmed condition, and you have resistance to psychic damage. Psionic Powers. You know the mage hand cantrip. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the misty step spell once per day. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the clairvoyance spell once per day. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
I would drop Lich Queen's Hunger. This is (IMO) better handled as a roleplay thing in game, spawning a whole arc, instead of a simple mechanical effect written into the race. |

A bonus for diplomacy with red dragons are useful almost never.
* I suggest a adventage to save agaings mind-affecting powers. |

| #8FaerieGodfatherSep 07, 2014 14:56:59 | I don't have much to add to this, but I do have an idea-- Githzerai and Githyanki should be subraces of a core Gith race. Both get +2 Dex/+1 Int, Githyanki get +1 Constitution and Githzerai get +1 Wisdom. |
| #9OculeDec 15, 2014 23:54:20 | Im doing a write up right now of the Gith and have it +2 Dexterity for being gith, +1 Wis if you are a githzerai and +1 Int if you are githyanki.

| #10rampantDec 16, 2014 8:50:02 | Yeah the whole more powers as you level up bit is pretty broken. |
| #11OculeDec 16, 2014 10:59:03 | I want to know the logic behind the tiefling, aasimar and drow. The reason they have 3 spells plus whatever they normally get while the other races get either a cantrip or a single use spell. |

|
| #13OculeDec 16, 2014 17:02:14 | Hmm, so does that mean both the Gith and Genasi should match them for that. In Psionic and Elemental abilities respectively or be more geared towards normal features like the core races and perhaps either a cantrip or a 1 off ability |
| #14CCSDec 16, 2014 18:45:08 | I want to know a few things: 1) what's everyone's facination with playing Githyanki? 2) ok, so I'm playing a Githyanki. When do I get my races iconic weapon - the silver sword/blade??? 3) ok, so your a Githyanki. You LOOK like a MONSTER! NPCS in the know concerning extra-planer races know that the Githyanki are generally evil & enemies... Why don't ordinary folk flee from you before you can convince them "but I'm a GOOD Githyanki!" Why aren't you hunted down, stabbed/shot/spelled before any questions get asked? Really this should pertain to playing any monster type as a PC ..... |
| #15OculeDec 16, 2014 20:25:48 | 1) The race is Gith, Githyanki and Githzerai are cultural. There is no fascination other then having them available for planescape campaigns as well as making npcs. 2) So unless you went around saying you are a pirate you are pretty safe. 3) Earn it in game, not hard to make a magic item for it. I plan to add it in my game as a boon you can get if you can find someone to teach you.
What are you doing in this thread? |
| #16rampantDec 16, 2014 20:40:16 | How educated is the average person in farun or the world of greyhawk? I mean your average townie probably couldn't tell a gith from an elf. |
| #17HebitsuikazaDec 19, 2014 11:47:51 | My advice is this.....
Start with the Tiefling and trade like ability for like ability.
What you have now is so clearly vastly superior to the Tiefling that it cannot be considered remotely balanced. Once the race looks virtually identical to the Tiefling, only it has maybe slightly different bonus attributes and gains different spells over levels and such... then you'll know you have it.
|
| #18dafrcaDec 19, 2014 15:16:20 | In my opinion, the Gith as a player race would fit nicely into a plane scape game. I also like where you are trying to take them. But to be honest, outside of planescape I would be tempted to no tallow them. |
| #19rampantDec 19, 2014 23:32:30 | Arrogant, skinny, pointy ears, that could describe elves or hob-goblins with an eating disorder, I figure that all else being equal the reactions among peasants will be about 50% for each. |

| #21rampantDec 20, 2014 11:51:55 | Depending on what part of our world you're from that does sound like an elf. And the stories about drow in many worlds don't sound all that off, although being mistaken for a drow probably isn't a good thing. I'm not calling the peasants stupid for not knowing what a gith is, they're stupid for not slitting the nobility/royalty's throats in their sleep, but that's a different issue. I'm saying that gith are a rather esoteric threat that most people in the material plane just have no knowledge of and it's unlikely they'll get run out of hamlets and such for being a damn dirty lich licker. Mistaken for something else maybe, but your typical rabble rouser isn't gonna know a gith from a hole in the ground. |
| #22MecheonDec 20, 2014 16:39:39 | See, the smart gith play the whole mysterious merchant caravan routine
Because just like every human village knows the story about the guy who married the elf who was beautiful as yaddah yaddah yaddah etc., they also know the story about the mysterious merchant caravan with the strange people who sold valuable stuff for seemingly cheap and because that person was nice to them, they got to become a king
Just don't pay attention to the fact the Gith seem to be wonderfully business savey, that sword they sold you seemed to be a repropduction not suited for combat, and someone died a few days later of complications related to being stabbed and dumped in a back alley |
