For craps & laughs, I gave one of my players a Golden Block with a ? on it, from the Mario games.  It is usuable 1/day, and it recharges at midnight if used.  The block grants one random power-up out of a variety of power-ups inspired by the Super Mario universe!  Depending on how many options I have available will determine if I ned to roll a 1d20, 1d30 or 1d100.

  1. Super Mushroom - grants Enlarge on target for 1 minute
  2. Mini Mushroom - grants Reduce on target for 1 minute
  3. Fire Flower - allows the target to cast Fire Bolt as a bonus action for 1 hour
  4. Ice Flower - allows the target to cast Frostbite as a bonus action for 1 hour
  5. Frog Suit - grants advantage on jump checks and can breath underwater for 1 hour
  6. Tanooki Suit - allows target to fly for 10 minutes
  7. Invincibility Star - the target invincible for 1d4+1 rounds
  8. Metal Cap - the target has resistance to all damage for 1 minute
  9. Double Cherry - there is a copy of the target for 1 minute, all attack rolls both physical and magical are at disadvantage against the target
  10. Super Bell - doubles movement speed, grants natural scratching attack 1d4 + Str; Dex mod damage, and advantage on climb checks, for 1 hour
  11. Cloud Flower - allows the user to jump and create a cloud as they land, only 3 clouds can be active at a time, all clouds disappear once the target lands, if the target attempts a 4th jump no new cloud will appear upon landing, active for 1 hour

Let me know what you think of the power-ups.  Feel free to add some Mario inspired power-ups of your own.  I hope you enjoy reading this and I hope it inspires you!

That looks like fun!

EDIT: Something to consider is how a PC would determine their ranged spell attack modifier (and damage) for the fire bolt and frostbite cantrips. Will you consider them proficient in those spells? Will they get a choice of casting stat? Will it be cast at their character level for the purpose of determining damage?
