| #1Sands666May 20, 2015 21:08:09 | Rodney says goodbye to WotC for a new endeavor!
http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/news/goodbye-rodney-thompson
Goodbye Rodney, you will be missed! Good luck on your next adventure, whatever it may be! |
| #2ZardnaarMay 20, 2015 22:39:44 | 3,2,1 the sky is falling 5E is dying/they should have stuck with 3.x/4E/long live Gygax!!!! |
| #3lawrencehoyMay 20, 2015 22:45:26 | I am a little saddened. I preferred RT's direction, with the game/rules design (along with JC's, who is still the Sage, for the moment), over some others'.
I wish him well though, in any venture; and, hope to see 3PP 5th Edition material from him. |
| #4Sands666May 21, 2015 0:20:05 | I'm curios what he could possibly have wanted to do that could take him away from IMO the COOLEST job in life! All the same, I wish him well. I think he really helped shape d&d in a way that will live on forever. Not many can say that! For me, 5E is all I need. I plan on sticking with this edition. That's in part something I can thank Rodney for. So thanks! |
| #5hunterian7May 21, 2015 2:45:15 | Better to leave on your own terms than face a yearly possible lay off. Rodney Thompson is responsible for some of the coolest 4E stuff- he will be missed. |

| #10joeburgosMay 21, 2015 5:43:38 | I believe Rod represents the old 4e guard. With the success of 5e Wizards could be building their dream team, and RT is smart and is leaving to forge his own path/company. I wish him much success, which he'll undoubtedly earn. I hope that Wizards hires someone as talented and hot as RT. |

| #13MistwellMay 21, 2015 8:14:41 | Rodney is a great designer. He'll be missed, and I wish him luck. |
| #14Tempest_StormwindMay 21, 2015 9:27:13 | I've worked with Rodney before and had some personal correspondence from when I was playtesting Saga, but nothing too involved. I always appreciated his design. Even in its raw form, it usually worked quickly (as quickly as the system allowed) and made sense mechanically and in the world (though in places where there was a conflict, he prioritized the game - I would have tried to engineer around the conflict, but I'm more simulationist than he is).
One quick story: before I was selected as a playtester, I was heavily involved in the Star Wars forums. Starships of the Galaxy had just come out, and I was enjoying playing around with fighter maneuvers before I found something unusual - with a specific chain of events involving fighter wings, designating commanders, and performing fighter maneuvers, it was possible for a group of NPC X-wings to take down a Star Destroyer in one round. Clearly, this was a problem, so I raised it on the forums. Within two weeks, Rodney put out errata for that book... with tiny changes to the specific rules elements I had used to perform the stunt, except the fighter maneuver. None of these elements were broken on their own, so they wouldn't have warranted errata otherwise. First, this meant that he, or his colleagues, were actually paying attention to the forums. Second, a more ham-fisted staffer would have nerfed the fighter maneuver involved (which would have been unfair, I think; it's not a broken maneuver at all and it's fun when a PC uses it), but Rodney left it intact, instead opting to understand what it was about that which was being broken and specifically patching the few rules elements that were causing the cracks.
I wish him the best, and trust that he's got something better in another harbor lined up. |

| #16Enevhar_AldarionMay 21, 2015 11:57:11 | Considering part of that article includes text from Rodney and he gives his new Twitter handle as @antarianranger, I am sure people can guess what game system/property/setting that refers to. |

| #21ChrisCarlsonMay 21, 2015 14:14:43 | I'm baffled by the notion that, because someone was involved in designing a particular game system, that it's their "style". Like someone who was part of the team making the crunchtastic 4e system couldn't also be good at writing a diceless or light narrative RPG, for example.
Crazy. Where does that come from? |

| #24ZardnaarMay 21, 2015 15:36:24 | Heh if Rodneyhas a style it would be more Star Wars than D&D. Before he helped out with SWSE he used to run his on SWRPG.net website. He also used to like the old Star Wars D6 version by West End Games. If he goes to Fantasy Flight Games (as hinted at via his name change) it is because he likes Star Wars more than D&D. |

Especially give, it would seem, that my comment did not relate to you at all, but rather to the comments of others.

| #49pukunuiJun 01, 2015 20:48:55 | Looks like Rodney's gone to work for Bungie:
