I swear, all I could think of while watching GotG was, "Geez these characters remind me so much of players..."

Yep. They're a bunch of overpowered weirdos whose go-to plan is immediate and excessive violence, or sometimes "steal stuff." And they stick together and save the day despite being so different from each other.

Sounds like D&D to me.

I've been designing "D&D in space", and when I saw Guardians, I was like, "this, but more wizards."

Not a very well balanced party though. There's one rogue and a bunch of muscle.

and one player who is rather silent, and dosen't add when the rest of the party is making the plan.

and just goes of on his own to complete one of the steps of the plan

Dance based distraction until explosives can happen also seems very much in line with some my groups more desperate plans.

I had the same feeling watching the recent "Hercules" movie.

My current Gamma World party would fit the Guardians of the Galaxy style VERRRRY WELL.

I haven't seen the movie yet (or read any of the comics), but that's exactly what I thought from the trailers and concept art.

Wierd D&D in space. The world needs more D&D-esque movies, just not ones called "D&D" lol...They tried that 3 times now, and, well...It sucked 3 times.

Honestly felt more like Dungeon World to me, but you could argue that's just another take on D&D.
