What would you rather have in terms of DPS setup, 5d6 at a 15% chance or 6d12 on a 5% chance?

The setups are:

Half orc fighter with the champion archetype wielding a greatsword will do 4d6 on a crit plus the half orc savage attacker, making it 5d6 15% of the time at max level

Half orc barbarian with a greataxe will do 6d12 5% of the time due to 2d12 for regular crit, another d12 from savage attacker, and then 3 more from the barbarian brutal critical ability at max level.

So which will deliver more overall damage spread throughout a campaign?

crits don't add much on average.
Fighter and barbarian are pretty evenly matched, but i think barbarians get a slight edge in damage. paticularly if you recklessly attack a lot.

Throughout a campaign?  I prefer the champion using whatever weapons are best for the job.  Another fighting style and more ASI/Feat options increase damage delivery within the varying scope of scenarios.

If your scenario scope is narrow, go barbarian with great axe.

Does that also factor in that the half orc champion gets 4 attacks, while the half orc barbarian gets only two? That's a 15% chance for a crit x 4 over a 5% chance for a crit x 2, right?

If you really want to you can have the best of both worlds, with a figher level 3 and barbarian level 17 giving 10% crit chance and 6d12.
