I'm already at ENworld and have been for a while.

ENworld

http://www.enworld.org/forum/forum.php

Multiedition.

RPGnet.

http://forum.rpg.net/

Mostly multiedition

Paizo

http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/community/gaming/4thEdition

Has a 4th ed and beyond section where the 5E stuff is.

Dragonsfoot

http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/

Mostly TSR/OSR D&D AKA the older pre WoTC stuff.

Thats most of the major RPG sites.

Also, a good place for RPG design discussion (though it has an OSR bent in general) is TheRPGSite.com

Giant In The Playground is also a good general RPG discussion forum with forums for 5e, 4e, 3e/PF, and OSR.

But yeah I think most of us are going to ENWorld.org.

Instead of just listing the most popular P&P forums, it would be nice if someone could say a few sentences what the strong points and the weak points of each of the forums are.

For example I'm mostly interesting in rules discussions. Others might interested in finding resources, etc.

I'm just a bad at guessing. I make a broad leaps in my assumptions. In this case, that you and Umbran were college roommates.

There's also Candlekeep?  Obviously for those D&Ders who are really into the Forgotten Realms.

I was kinda suprised that nobody mentioned Reddit. There are a few D&D-related subreddits:

https://www.reddit.com/r/dndnext

https://www.reddit.com/r/dnd

https://www.reddit.com/r/AdventurersLeague/

I haven't spent a ton of time on them, but generally the culture there seems good.

I haven't been here for very long, and it seems very weird that they would close this down.

I wonder if Warner Brothers is eventually going to get the IP for some of the WotC stuff and they are just preparing ahead of time.

I remember a while ago when Midway (video game company) was still around, I used to be a moderator on their forums, I was a member for years, we had a staple community.

Midway went bankrupt, IPs were sold off, Warner Brothers bought the rights to the Mortal Kombat IP and the new forums were called Netherrealm Studios.  It never felt the same, so I never joined.

Hi

As the owner, I'd like to add my own website to the list of possible websites that may be useful to people here looking for new communities. What I offer is a place where you can host your creations for free. By creations, I mean any content or resource you have created, and would like to host online so anyone can benefit from it. We cover all D&D editions, as well as Pathfinder RPG.

Some examples of user created content currently hosted at ADnD Downloads:

https://www.adnddownloads.com/en/resource/current-standard-character-sheet

https://www.adnddownloads.com/en/resource/bloodedge

https://www.adnddownloads.com/en/resource/trouble-at-troublewater

The website is my own personal project, but it's been online for over 15 years, and get a lot of visitors everyday. Some resources have been downloaded over 5000 times in the las 6 months, so I genuinely think it serves as a good way to promote your creations.

Please come visit, feel free to contact me if you have any question or suggestion. Thanks for reading!

RPGnet was mentioned, but I'd note that the moderation there is pretty strict - much more so than EnWolrd, for example - and it's fair to say that D&D is not the main focus of the forums the way it is on some sites. Certainly better if you're interested in non-D&D games than anywhere else mentioned, though.

It's perhaps worth mentioning Google+. The comunities tend to be small, but it's a place where it's very easy to post large amounts of material, entiere unnoficial sourcebooks for instance, and get some discussion.

For me, I don't see any other alternative than ENWorld (at least for a main site to contribute within).  It has an established 5e dedicated part of the forum, and Morrus, et. al do cover the RPG industry at large as well. There are forums there for older D&D, Pathfinder and other game systems. They have a very good resource sharing system, user reviews, etc.  Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to create my own blog space on ENWorld.  I'm not that computer savey.  That's one reason why I made my blog here at WoTC - it was really easy to create.

The subforums are more for custom content, though. Or for older editions. If you just want to talk about 5E in general or ask questions about the rules, there's only the main forum and then you have hundreds of thread showing from other forums and in between sometimes a thread on the topic you're actually interested in, that isn't good.

I mean having a forum that shows the content of all other forums isn't bad, but there should be a D&D 5E Rules Discussion forum too.

If there really is a 5E rules forum on EnWorld, mind giving a direct link to it?

Edit: On a sidenote I already started noticing the different mentality on EnWorld. The people there don't seem to be as strict about the rules as here, not sure if I will fit in there. I was already confronted with sentenced like "rules lawyers are the worst people". Ack!

#45

Mecheon

Sep 24, 2015 5:25:17

Rules lawyers are the worst. The aim is to play for fun, and rules lawyers are not fun. The only time they are fun is against another rule lawyer

Anywho, I might make an appearance around ENWorld as their ongoing Warlord thread needs the blunt brick of "If you have a problem with Warlords why don't you have a problem with Bards" thrown into it

I'll be jumping between Paizo's, ENWorld's, Roll20's, and Fantasy Grounds'  forums. Losing these forums is like the apocalypse stone getting removed from its ever warping castle. Will the multiverse survive without a centralized D&D forums? We'll have to wait and see.
