So, I hadn't realized how enormous the area is, even the area on the map in Hoard of the Dragon Queen. From Greenest to Elturel is 200 miles and from Baldur's Gate to Waterdeep is 750 miles! That's about the distance from New York to Charleston, South Carolina, and it's actually longer than the distance between Rome and Paris or Paris and Berlin.
Anyway, I mention this because I would otherwise be inclined to set this adventure (suitably adjusted) in another setting, but I'm finding it hard to conceive of distances that large without a lot (and a lot of interesting) things in between what is presented in the adventure as basically open and uneventful space, with the possibility of a few encounters (during two months of travel!). Any thoughts about condensing the physical scope of the adventure without losing its pacing? |

I'm just adding lots of stuff to the adventure to a) fill it out as it really is weird to travel so far and have little to nothing happen and b) to slow down what I find to be a ridiculously fast levelling rate. Since I'm using the milestone system extra stuff doesn't actually add to the xp the players get per episode, which works well for my purposes. |
