| #1CCSAug 28, 2015 21:10:13 | Back in April a couple of us down at the shop decided to do an RPG in place of our usual random minis games. 5e was selected. I was tapped as the DM as I was already playing 5e.
The 1st several weeks we had 5 players. Then it dropped off to just 2 (+dm). Now & then 3. . Seems the store owners been busy selling 5e books this past week or so! Out of the blue I had 4 completely new players/customers come to me looking for a game. And then tonight while we were rolling up the new PCs? Two more. . So my sleepy little occasional 5e game - mostly dedicated to bsing & RP silliness - went into over-drive & now finds itself at 8 players & going to run every week.... |

What started as a single night and table has expanded to 2-3 tables two nights a week, running the retail adventures on Wednesdays and Expeditions on Thursdays.
One thing I recommend doing is looking for a second DM, as your game will eventually grow beyond your personal limits due to the increased exposure. You might not need that second DM until many months from now, but you'll be glad you started grooming one now for when the need arises. You'll know when that time comes, as things will become less fun for you.
Good luck, and keep having fun! |

I trained one of them to DM and he now runs a second group of players, and I'm sitting on a group of 4 now. It is actually enjoyable for me now, and I don't think I could handle more than 5, maybe 6 tops. The key was training new people how to DM and helping them get the books they need and so on. I have trained countless people how to DM, and I always wonder how many of them still play, wherever they are. Increasing numbers of players is great for the game, but I now very proactively entice people to DM, because that is the key limiting factor to game groups in my experience. Good luck! |

I was actually at my local Kroger yesterday buying the typical snacks for my game late today and the young lady (maybe 16-19) bagging my groceries said nice shirt. I ask if she played and she said she used to until the DM of the group went to college. You never can tell when you might be an ambassador to the game |

For OotA, we expect just under 30 players, plus 4DMs across 4 tables. We also have spare DMs amidst the players for when regular DMs aren't available. It's going to be awesome! |
