How will the players know I'm the DM without a DM screen?

Seriously though. Is there going to be one released? They are handy for many reasons: quick access to frequently used tables and information, hiding secret die rolls, hiding secret snacks and of course hiding my nipples when I DM topless.

I found a GM screen that was apparently for the playtest online. It's pretty nice looking but I want to double check everything on it for accuracy before I'd post it. I can't remember where I found it at all, so I can't really attribute it other than to say I didn't make it. But I plan on putting one of my own together that I can keep on my iPad for gaming. I don't generally use a physical screen much these days as I don't care for the wall it creates during play but it's certainly nice to have many of the important rules available at a glance. And if I do decide to use a physical screen, it will necessarily be a landscape three-panel to slip into the customizable screen I have.

I'll post the thing I found online if it seems to be accurate.

I made one out of discarded drumettes from the hot wings of sessions past and dice that had displeased me. The increasingly bad smell coming from it made it impractical for use at the gaming table during the long hot summer, however, so I just stuck it in my bedroom closet instead, next to my Tony Danza shrine. Now if I want to roll secretly, I just make up a number in my head. Same goes for DCs. Rulings over rules are awesome.

Tatoo DM on your arm, Burger King crown, grow a beard, pet a cat on your lap, bring fifty 20-sided dice, or wear a cape to the session.

Part of me wishes they wouldn't sell a DM screen. I honestly think that the DM screen is the worst concept to be taken up as a tradition by the playerbase in the history of the hobby. There are so many cons to having it versus so few pros that I'd rather it be done away with altogether.

Then again, since it's inevitable that it'll happen, I hope it's at least as good as the Pathfinder one. That thing is bloody solid as a rock. You could easily do 1d2 damage with it as an improvised weapon.

I think they should have the screen be art on one side and three page inserts on the other. That way we could swap out the pages for errata updates or just to make sure we have the info we want on hand.

I'd also be interested in player cheat sheets that I could give new players along with the pre-gen sheet.

Savage worlds sells an artless landscape screen, ad sturdy as a menu at a fancy restuarant. I print up my own art, compile the tables and data I need. Six pages of laminating later I have a dm scrren every bit as good as store bought ones.

You don't need a screen to DM. Free yourself from the screen and your DMing will improve 100 fold.

The DM screen is a cage built of charts and lies.

What is a dungeon master? A miserable little pile of secrets and notes! Enough talk, have at the players!

A DM is easily identified by lack of armor.

The only thing I want between me and my players is understanding and booze.

Although I may not start out nude behind the DM screen, when we play Strip D&D, sometimes my terrible rolls result in my ending up as such...
