| #1OrzelDec 16, 2014 3:49:12 | On the other side of the "ranger and magic" thoughts.
Do you have any ideas for ranger spells? Magic spells that seem very rangery without going too druidic or wizardly. (They can share though) Some subtle enough to be flavored as "advanced techniques and tricks" but wondorus enough to be not complex for everyone to attempt.
One idea was a "blinding strike" spell where a ranger summons sand or dirt around his weapon and flicks it in an giant's face while attacking.
Another is a "stay awake" spell where a ranger takes a sip of ranger coffee, removes exhaustion, gains sleep and charm immuntity, and didn't need to stay still to rest.
Ranger Cafe: Sleep is for Quiters and Dead Men.
Maybe a "conjure venom" spel. Because one dose poison is effective. Rangers aren't paladins.
What is your ideas? Any spells from older editions which could be brought back? |

| #7rampantDec 16, 2014 8:54:54 | Well I'd like to see flame blades make a comeback, the ranger has a couple of arrow buffing spells, but it needs to expand on that and pick up some melee boosters. |

| #9rampantDec 16, 2014 10:07:39 | Admittedly you sacrifice your second attack on the turn you cast flame blade, but you can keep it up with concentration can't you? While we're at it I was thinking of a different spell anyway, instead of making a weapon from fire I was thinking of the spell that cloaks your weapons in flame.
ANyway the idea is that you can use ranger spells as a way to spice up their weapon attacks. |

| #12rampantDec 16, 2014 10:42:52 | I wouldn't allow the option to freely select the element this is a ranger spell not 3.5 kineticist power. |
| #13melloredDec 16, 2014 10:46:36 | I added a few for the beastmaster. He get's these for free.
Iron Fur: Level 1. Durration: 8 hours You touch a beast, it's AC is no lower then 10+Dex+1/2 your proficency, and it's saving throws are no lower then it's stat + 1/2 your proficency.
Shield Pet: Level 1 Cast time: 1 reaction If you and your pet are subject to a the same area of effect, the effect does not affect your pet.
Revivify Beast: Level 2 ranger spell. You can bring back to life a beast that has died in the past minute. The creature has 1 hit point, and takes disvantage on all checks untill it finishes a long rest. This does not regrow body parts. At higher level: Casting this spell at a higher level allows for more time to have passed. 1 hour for level 3, 1 day for level 4, and 1 month for level 5.
Pet Rescue: Level 3 ranger spell. 1 bonus action If you are on the same plane, you can teleport a beast marked by this ritual to an unoccupied space within 5' of you. Ritual: You spend 10 minutes putting a magical mark on a willing beast. This mark lasts until the beasts body is destroyed, you use this ritual again, or it is dispelled. You know if the mark is gone, though not neccicaraly why. If the beast is on another plane, the mark is suppressed and appears to be gone to you. You can perform this ritual even you otherwise can't perform rituals.
Linked Minds: Leve 3 Durration: 8 hours You can communicate with your pet telepathicly as long as you are on the same plane. In addition, you can spend an action to see though it's senses. You are blind and deaf while doing so. You can spend another action to return to your own senses. At higher level: At level 4 it takes a bonus action to swich senses. At level 5 you can see though both sesnes at the same time. |
| #14eventhorizon1Dec 16, 2014 10:54:46 | how about a spell that changes the damage type when cast on an arrow like can do either slashing piercing or bludgeon damage ? or how about quiver whne the spell is cast a temporary quiver of arrows show up but for a limited time ? or an illusion where he looks like the animal that is confronting him like a bear and the illusion is perfect ? what about a delayed explosive arrow? as you can see i love the ranger but i agree he needs more spells. |

| #16rampantDec 16, 2014 12:50:09 | I'd say fire personally, but cold works.
Other things could be spells that mimic some of the tiger claw maneuvers from the To9S.
A spell that multiples the number of arrows in flight, a spell tat lets you move quickly or instantly to a target, things like that. |

| #22edwin_suDec 16, 2014 14:14:14 | Wel would it be ok to use the spell system for things that are not technicly spells ?
So you could translate the 4th eition encounter and daily power special attacks. and just use the spell slot system as a limiting factor on how often you can use them.
