| #1setiOct 11, 2014 1:56:28 | Yeah, sorry if the title got cut off.
My question to the forum is this:
If you could cast/use any three wizard spells in reality, what would they be?
I'll start.
1) Mage hand. Because, well, awesome and useful on a daily basis. 2) Silence. Because I really would love to shut some people up. I had a problem recently....My wife (who is in a wheelchair) was insulted at work. Some (explative deleted) woman called her 'retarded' and 'crippled'. Seriously. I'm so mad, there's black and red behind my eyes. I don't want to kill, lol, But I'd love to just make someone unable to speak for a time. I know, the spell doesn't quite work that way RAW. But, dammit it should. 3) Teleport. Dude. Because: TELEPORT!
Anyway, I know this isn't a rules issue, or a 'I praise 5e because it can do no wrong' topic, or even a 'let's discuss RAW vs. RAI' thing...But I am curious.
...Or maybe I want to know Power Word: Kill...
No...I'm a liberal/socialist/pacifist....Damn my morals sometimes.

|
| #3ZardnaarOct 11, 2014 2:33:11 | Wish Silence 15' suggestion |
| #4QmarkOct 11, 2014 2:40:16 |
|
| #51eejitOct 11, 2014 2:48:58 | Time Stop. Invisibility.
not Wizard, but anyway - True Resurrection (hi there Einstein, Tesla!) |
| #6OrzelOct 11, 2014 3:21:55 | How many times per day would I be able to cast them?
I mean all three at will, once per short rest, or am I a level 20 wizard but with only 3 spells prepared?
Because teleport is awesoome but I need to be able to cast it twice without a nap. |
| #7kalilOct 11, 2014 4:00:55 | I think I could get by with just wish tbh |
| #8Monsieur_MoustacheOct 11, 2014 4:51:33 | Planar travel |
| #9Senri-SeiOct 11, 2014 4:53:13 | Given that Wish can replicate the effects of any eighth level or lower spell without any negative consequences (except those imposed by the replicated spell), the only other spells worth taking would be cantrips or 9th level spells like thaumaturgy, mending, True Resurrection or Foresight
Wish True Resurrection Thaumaturgy
(Without Wish)
Control Water Mass Heal Create or Destroy Water |
| #10Senri-SeiOct 11, 2014 5:02:26 |
|
| #11UchawiOct 11, 2014 8:00:02 | 1. Alter Reality - That is why I play a RPG 2. Wish - Just to make sure it sticks 3. Plane Shift - If the first two don't work, at least I can jump to a new world/plane |
| #12TsuliaOct 11, 2014 8:38:04 | Wish would be a given.
If nothing else, I'd have fun watching the chaos. |
| #131eejitOct 11, 2014 8:43:06 | Alternatively if I were to choose 1 spell to be almost universally available to all people it would be Plant Growth |
| #14Brock_LandersOct 11, 2014 9:00:00 |
|
| #15CCSOct 11, 2014 9:21:53 | 1) Clean - I hate cleaning the house, doing dishes, laundry, etc. So if I had this one cantrip...... 2) Fly. Sure, teleport would get me places faster, but flying would work just as well & be more fun. 3) Regeneration (or something similar) - out of some personal needs. Of course if Wish is an option, then Wish as #1![]() |
| #16LawolfOct 11, 2014 9:29:29 | True Polymorph Wish Simulacrum
Create an infinite army of me! |
| #17machinegunn1Oct 11, 2014 10:08:41 | mage hand-im lazy and can multitask with this fireball-im a pyro and will help if people piss me off wish-because its a damn wish |
| #18YunruOct 11, 2014 10:10:02 |
|
| #19Chiisai_UsagiOct 11, 2014 10:42:27 | Fly. Because I saw "Chronicle". Teleport. For when it's too far to fly. Plane Shift. Because I watched "Sliders".
Doctrine: Mobility. Because you can't hurt what isn't there. |
| #20Lord_AvalancheOct 11, 2014 12:31:11 | Create Food and Water (or Plant Growth) Mass Heal Sphere of Ultimate Destruction
With these, several of the world's problems could be eliminated: starvation, disease and pollution.
If I was feeling more self-serving and hedonistic
Fly Telekinesis Foresight
|
| #21Eric888Oct 11, 2014 12:37:14 | Mass Heal is easily the best. Cure 700 cancer victims a day? Yes. That one.
Teleport, so it is easier to get around the world curing diseases and picking up awards.
Mordenkeinen's Mansion for when I need some Me time. |
| #22MiladoonOct 11, 2014 21:27:37 | Prestidigitation + Druidcraft + Thaumaturgy = Best D&D session ever.
|
| #23RamzourOct 12, 2014 1:23:38 | Since picking Wish is cheating, I'd prefer some practical spells.
Cure Wounds (to heal the sick and wounded!) Speak with Animals (so I can finally commune with my cats) Mage Hand (best spell in the game / reality) |
| #24AhglockOct 12, 2014 14:03:38 | Without wish.
1. Clone. Immortality. 2. Magnificent mansion. Easy life for ever. 3. Plane Shift. Traveling is fun.
|
| #25SteampunkMonkOct 14, 2014 21:53:11 | Dream Fly Mass Heal |
| #26Joe_the_RatOct 15, 2014 8:10:31 | Ray of Frost: Personal defense, pest control, chills beer, and violates laws of thermodynamics. Prestidigitation: Swiss Army Cantrip Fly: There are times you want to get to some really hard-to-reach places, and this is the most versatile way to do so. And I hate moving that ladder around. |
| #27Spekke-Oct 15, 2014 14:16:49 |
|
| #28setiOct 15, 2014 17:04:29 | Sorry for not putting this in the OP, people.
They'd be at-will if cantrips, and times per day based on spell level max slots (ie: a 9th level spell = only once a day. But a 1st level spell could be 4 times a day)
I don't want to mix other class spells, ideally...But, if we're including the whole spell list...I'd want:
I still stand by my wizard choices, though. Violating the laws of thermodynamics is cool as @#$%, but...All spells violate physics, anyway...

| #29RastapopoulosOct 16, 2014 18:07:08 |
1. Friends 2. Charm Person 3. Dominate Person
Use them in order just in case the lady still refuses after the last spell... |
| #30rampantOct 16, 2014 21:44:48 | Reincarnation - I can save people from anything including old age Clone - I can keep myself from dying True Polymorph - I can turn anything into anything else, so I have infinite money with which to undertake the above |
| #31GladiusLegisOct 16, 2014 22:53:14 | Assuming Wish isn't allowed (because it'd be a no-brainer pick if it is):
Power Word: Kill - Some corrupt politician or CEO is nearby? With but a word, make sure they can never affect policy, ever again. Plant Growth - Must reverse deforestation. Teleport - The ultimate method of transporation to do what I need to do, see whom I need to see, and so forth. |
| #32spelleyOct 17, 2014 7:06:24 | Ignoring Wish: - Teleport: Deals with all travel concerns. - True Polymorph: Transform one thing into another thing. Interestingly, this can be used to maintain immortality I believe as you could True Polymorph yourself into....a younger yourself (or someone/something else) - Mass Heal: Being the ultimate healer would be good. |
| #33AH_schulertaOct 17, 2014 7:22:20 | Invisibility True Polymorph Teleport
I would trade out True Polymorph to be a doppleganger though. |
| #34sleypyOct 17, 2014 16:22:40 | Antimagic Field Dream Counterspell |
| #42edwin_suOct 30, 2014 4:48:27 | I am reading the martian by andy weir.
It is a book about a austronaut who is left behind on mars, And at one point he refrences how he used to play DnD with friends at school and played a cleric, a class who had a spell to create water. And how much he could use a spell that could create water now he was stuck on mars. |
| #43blake_marloweOct 31, 2014 19:03:33 | from the wizard list, no wish:
teleport. cuz bamfing is awesome. mage hand: cuz minor telekinesis at-will would freaking rock. plus, you could literally tweak people's noses and get away with it. :D time stop, just cuz. |
