I would love to buy the D&D starter set as a PDF. Anyone know if this can be done legally?

I don't believe it will be, but I can't be sure about that as the devs keep saying they can't talk about 5e and pdfs yet (aside from the Basic rules obviously).

What about the pregens? Will those be posted somewhere?

 

I thought I saw that there would be a special miniatures set for the pregens. I wish they had released that with the Starter Set, because later on their usefulness drops off quite a bit...
