Hex desecrating the area and making the spell 1d6 stronger, and Arms of Hadar does 2d6 damage on a failed Strength save, doesn't let the enemy react until their next turn, and does half as much damage on a failed saved. So in Hoard of the Dragon Queen, where the party faces Kobolds and Cultits, who have low Strength and no Strength saves, it is not hard at all for the Warlock to kill or majorly hurt their opponents in the beginning. Opinions on Warlock early game, late game and in general. |

The bladelockis a bit of a trap without multiclassing while the ewarlock can make a decent arcane archer type PC. If you look at the warlock as an archer rather than as a wizard the class works a bit better. |

| #4FrogReaverMar 01, 2015 0:21:18 | Depends on how you build it.
I made a fiend and blade pact warlock that will at level 5 have these abilities:
I started mountain dwarf. 16 str 14 dex 14 cha; i then boost cha by 2 at level 4. 1. 8 temp hp gained per enemy killed. 2. 2 fireball casts every short rest (or maybe hex occasionaly if we fight a single big monster) 3. 2 melee attacks that do 1d10 + 3 using a versatile warhammer 4. 2 ranged attacks that do 1d10 + 3 damage using eldritch blast 5. 16 ac with medium armor
All in all i feel like I can fit into any combat role my party ever needs. I prefer staying at range and aoe damage. But if something gets in my face i'm still effective. If another backline character needs defended I can easily engage. If there aren't alot of front line characters or if they are having trouble and need help I can go to the front lines and take some of the heat off them.
In fact, I explicitly designed this character to be able to cover as many combat roles as possible in a 3 person party where I had no idea what the other players would be playing. The only thing I can't do well is party heal. However, I can generate enough temp hp to keep myself standing for quite a while. Especially considering I don't have to stay in the heat of melee combat at all times since I have such a good ranged attack in eldritch blast. |

Everything is great.
Stop worrying about this character compared to that character and play something that seems fun - if it is fun, keep at it, if it isn't fun try something else.
Don't deprive yourself of a chance at an enjoyable character just because you are worried that some different character might manage marginally higher numbers here and there. |
