Just finished running my first session of 5e. Great system!

I just finished running my first game of 5e, ever.   I ran 4e for several years, and at least 20 of 1e/2e.

This system has a very old school feel to it, while having much smoother mechanics.   I wrote a one-shot adventure designed to try out all three aspects of RPGs; investigation, exploration and combat.   I'm not one to give false praise, but neither myself nor any of my players had anything but compliments about the system.

We played theatre of the mind style, via G+, and made sure to have one of each class and race (four players total).   The casters loved the magic system, even one player who normally hates Vancian magic, was totally sold on his cleric by the end.   All of us are eager to start our 5e long term campaign in the fall, and are waiting for the PHB to release first.

It's almost 2 am, I'm going to bed happy and wanted to give kudos to WotC with creating an excellent system.  Well done!

Yeah I'm very happy as well. I need to play it more of course, but 5e caters to a playstyle I enjoy. It feels like D&D again.

+1 You need to come back later, after you get some rest, and tell us all about it.

Glad to hear it went well! And it's great to hear from someone actually playing the game rather than just theorizing about it.

I agree. I LOVE this edition so far. It feels amazing! Its like a more balanced and coherent version of 2e, but with some of the "customization" garnishes of 3e and 4e. I love it!

This is great news.  Thanks Swampdog.   I'm on the road now so I can't play/DM, but I'm looking forward to sessions when I get back home.

Currently basic is lots of combat rules, but no monsters.  No exploration rules.  No investigation rules.  So...  Glad you enjoyed the game you made.

Could've easily used Playtest stats as well. Or some of the previews (Hobgoblin, Nothic, Ochre Jelly, Ogre). Or NPCs. Or invented his own.

15th needs to hurry and get here, haha! Then I'll need to try and wiggle a little Phandelvin' into an already filled weekly game schedule.

@OP

I am glad you enjoyed it. I've looked at enough rules-systems in my time to know this will run well at my table without running it yet.

But then it has kept what I liked from the playtest and ejected nearly all of the dross - so it's a bit of a no-brainer from my point of view...
