Basically long story short i just got princes of the apocalypse and have been reading it. Great adventure it looks really fun. My only issue is i dont want to play in forgotten realms if i can help it and my group likes eberron alot. How much of a shoehorn is it to fit into the eberron setting? The advice on where to drop it and what to do with the elemental planes has left me more than a little confused. At the same time running it in dark sun's athas seems like a great idea if i can persuade them to play there.

So in short,

Are the suggestions for the elemental planes in the appendix actually good or would the story no longer make much sense?

Where is the best place to put the adventure?

It suggests not using an airship but doesnt really specify why. I wanted to give my party one and was planning on i got the adventure.

Why wouldn't it fit in Ebberron? Do other planes not exist in that setting? As for the airship - is there a point to slower travel in the module? Or some part that would become much easier if the group could fly?

In the eberron setting book they have planes of existence but they dont use the traditional D&D cosmos the great wheel. They have a bunch of planes orbiting eberron and they influence eberron based on their proximity at a given time. The traditional elemental planes are not present.

As for the not using an airship im damn curious myself. I don't see anything so far that says why not other than making them do some leg work on the ground.

Eberron's cosmology and the great wheel cosmology do not actually represent different organizations of planes of existence or a different reality of any kind - they are simply different ways for the people within a setting to represent the relationships between different planes of existence.

As for elemental planes, Eberron's interpretation of them includes the planes of Fernia (the Sea of Fire) and  Risia (the Plain of Ice), which could easily be interpreted as part of the elemental plane of fire and a portion of the border between the elemental planes of water and air - and the other two elemental planes can absolutely exist even in Eberron, but have been as of yet not really that well discovered or explored.

Aterall, the default 5th edition setting isn't actually the Forgotten Realms - it's the multi-verse, and it is meant to include all of D&D's worlds.

Also just use the section in the back of the book to convert it to Eberron. It says how. You are not going to ruin anything and the players won't be going to the Elemental Planes anyway.

This is true. I just didnt want it to feel like the pieces didnt fit. Although no one is truly an expert on the setting so they probably wouldnt notice anyway if it didnt.

True. Was planning on letting them captain their own ship at some point but still something like that could work.

Wasnt sure where i should put the adventure set though. Shsould i transport the whole valley or do away with it and do individual places. The book seems to give 4 examples but not sure if they should be used in conjunction or individual suggestions
