| #1Hurin88Feb 13, 2015 11:58:38 | So, I'm rolling up my character for a new 5e campaign in which I will be a player rather than DM. Am I reading the Lucky feat (in the feats section, not the Halfling one) correctly? I get 3 luck points per extended rest, and I can use one of them for basically a full reroll of an attack or save? That seems to me overpowered... it essentially means that my character will virtually never be hit with a critical (so long as I always keep a luck point or two in reserve), since I can reduce the chance of a critical from 5% to 0.25%... and I can (if I want) do that three times per extended rest.
I'm definitely going to take it if the DM allows it... but is anyone else a little uncomfortable with this feat? Just wondering... |

Lucky's main advantage is that it's versitile. It can help you take less damage, bluff check, or wisdom save, or to turn a hit into a miss. |

I will say, however, that the halfling racial feature and the feat should be named different things. It's obnoxious that you have to clarify the brand of luck you're leveraging.

(I have infinite ways to make your character dead) So go ahead & reduce the odds as low as you like. Heck, just tell me you don't want to play with crits (If you do that though it comes with caveat that you neither deal nor recieve crit effects....) & choose a different feat. |
| #5PsikerlordFeb 13, 2015 19:50:19 | I have Lucky on my half-orc battlemaster. It's fun and great for things like wisdom saves, but not OP by a long shot. Great, versatile feat which makes playing a simpler class more interesting. |
| #6RhennyFeb 14, 2015 6:50:02 | For a lot of campaigns that focus more on story and developing characters long term (campaigns where players fear for their pc deaths because they truly want to build a story), I can see the lucky feat as just the thing that marks a pc as an adventurer/hero. For a heroic campaign all pcs could get lucky feat.
I also agree that as a choice feat it isn't overpowered. |
| #7Hurin88Feb 14, 2015 9:56:12 | Ok, I won't feel badly about selecting it then! Thanks for the input.
Just for the record, I'm playing a Wizard, so the medium and heavy armor feats are not really an option for me. The extra dex and con are possibilities, but I'm going to try Lucky to see how it goes. |
| #8ChaosmancerFeb 17, 2015 22:59:23 | Just be careful, I've got a Lucky Assassin at my table. Guy can and has blown through all 3 luck points re-rolling a single save. It has saved him from many a gruesome fate but it can disappear very quickly |

| #10trebor_rjfFeb 18, 2015 0:29:35 | it's one of those feats that only a DM can really appreciate (hate). i'm probably going to ban it, your post echoes my experiences with it during the last year or so of playing 5e. maybe if it was only once per day, but that still doesn't change the problem of players who hoard their points for the best possible moment. |
