The following is some ideas I have been throwing around for smaller feats to use in 5E. The reason is beacuse there are a lot of bad feats in 5E that never gettaken and a few I consider borderline feat taxes (resilient, war caster) and others that are out right over powered if abused (Great Weapon Master, Sharpshooter, Crossbow Expert).

Each microfeat replaces a larger feat and you get 2 microfeats instead of an ability score increase or bonus feat with the variant human. at the DMs option everyone may get a bonus microfeat at level 1. These feats are designed for a homebrew version of D&D i have been working on and it is based heavily on being a BECMI/5 hybrid as some of the numbers in 5E still get a bit crazy IMHO. If you have ever played BECMI you will know what I mean where 1d8+6 is considered high damage (18 strength and a +3 weapon). ATM this is just theory crafting about poritng these feat to 5E. These feats replace the PHB ones and in some cases suck as the lucky feat are the same as I consider the PHB one to be underpowered. Anyway translations.

I actually was just thinking about this. Feats are balanced against +1 to 2 ability scores, so it shouldn't be hard to separate them each into two (some are +1 ability and something else).

An idea I had to making some of the feats seem less "useless" would be to separate combat and non-combat feats. Non-combat feats could be moved into a skill system. As you level up, you gain new skill proficiencies which you can use to learn new skills or tools, or you can use them to improve skill or tool proficiencies. These improvements wouldn't be for increasing flat numbers; rather, they'd give you new uses or reduce existing penalties (like climb speed reduction).

Just go for it, 5th Ed, is basically, 3rd Ed Lite (with a slathering of 4th Ed).

I like it, it would give more options for players to make their characters different.

but I would not have weapon focus and dodge.

they seem like microfeat taxes for sure.

Craven is borderline OP as it was in 3.5e. (halfling rogue 1/barbarian X) go-go reckless attack!

thoughness would be just 1HP per level.
