I just staged a mock battle. 3 gladiators against 3 lions (in an arena, of course - cake-walk for the Gladiators).
I noticed an issue with the stats of said Gladiator. Namely, it states that a Gladiator doubles its damage dice when used in melee (Brute), and yet the damage described for a ranged attack is also doubled (seems like a mistake to me).
Also, it states that the hit die is increased to a d8 if the spear is used TWO HANDED. That would mean that he (or she) would no longer be protected by their shield. Shouldn't their stats (AC) be reflected in this (or do we have to look that up for every such instance).
Also, their HP seems a bit much, IMO.
( * Sorry, but I didn't have time to go over all the discussions to see whether or not this was already covered) |

It says that Primus (the LN leader/god of the modrons) made some artifact that was designed to spread order to the chaos of limbo. This device allowed modrons, githzerai monestaries, etc. to exist there. Somehow, the device is also responsible for the creation of the Slaad, CN creatures of PURE chaos. Umm...Ok...
I just don't like that, and it confuses me.
On the mechanical side, my only real problems so far have been with some of the CR's (or just 'Challenge' as they call it now). Some seem too high, some too low. There's a lot of examples of this. (Don't have the book in front of me ATM.) This might foul up a newbie DM, or a DM who's just coming from a previous edition and putting together combats, etc. based on previous experience/instinct, or even one who follows the (limited, until the DMG comes out) free DM pdf guidelines for encounter building.
I'm basically over my dislike of having to look up caster monster spells again. Whatever.
I still love the book, though. Glad I have it. It's beautiful, over all. One of the best monster books for any TTRPG ever, IMO. |

The artifact didn't destroy any "chaos stuff", it just moved it around - took it out of the plane in general so that things like monasteries would not unravel into chaos, and that "chaos stuff" coalesced into the Slaadi which it couldn't do (long term, anyway) until something came along and made "constant" a possibility amidst chaos. |
