Would people find an online Monster Index (similar to my Spell Index) useful?  What would be in it other than name, type, and challenge rating?  In other words, what else might you want to search for? I can see thinking, "Hmmm...I need an undead that's about challenge rating 2..." but beyond that?

Size?

Flying (Y/N)?

Alignment?

Home Plane?

Also, it will happen much sooner rather than later if somebody else wants to put the data into a spreadsheet for me.

Having an index b creature type (fiend, beast etc...) could be useful

FYI There is a Monster By Challenge Rating Index available for download;

Here's a monster index and encounter builder:

5e Monster List

It includes Name, Size, Type, Alignment, CR, and Source. It it searchable and as I said has a calculator for determining XP and challenge.

Seeing as both books have been light on indices so far I think this kind of functionality is going to be incorporated into the digital toolkit. Which will allow it to be constantly updated and customizable.

Wow, that asmor.com page is great. If there were one thing I would like to see added it would be a button you could press that would generate some random encounters. Like if you could check that you wanted a medium encounter of either 1, 2, 3-6, 7-10, 11-14, or 15+ creatures, you press a button that would give you three random encounters of that many enemies based on your party's level and size. That might be a lot of work, but I think it would be an incredible asset to the game. As is, the math behind building encounters is really turning me off because I like to run things on the fly.

And even better would be if you could select multiple difficulties and group sizes to get a random encounter across a wide range. Even better than that, if you could weight the randomness to say, for example, "I want an encounter for 4 level 5 PCs from medium to deadly, of any group size, and with a high chance of a medium encounter, medium chance of a hard encounter, and low chance of a deadly encounter." Even better than that, add another level beyond deadly, like ludicrous with a cap, so I can randomly give my PCs something to run from (and something they can possibly form a great plan or raise a militia to take out). Throw in checkboxes for creature types and you could get random encounters that fit well with the locations and stories in your game. Make it able to weight those as well and you could have an area full goblinoids and orcs with a small chance of the occasional giant, and so on.

I really wish I knew how to do stuff like that on my own. I would throw money at something like this.

Good ideas, Gazra. Maybe email that over to the guy who put it together?
