Monster Manual Release?

It's been a while since I've bought D&D products, but I noticed  that my local gaming shop had a copy of the Player's Handbook prior to August 19th, so I wondered if that's common with D&D releases now.

If so, how long before September 30th can I expect to see the Monster Manual on my local gaming shelf?

Thanks!

If they provide the same benefit to the premier stores, it would be 11 days early. I hadn't heard if they were going to do this or not, however, for the MM.

Certain stores (those that qualify for the special benefit of the wizard's play network) receive all the D&D products that WotC release early - it's not something that needs a special announcement that they are doing for each individual product because it has been standard procedure for years already, so the only possible thing to "hear" would be that WotC decided to cancel this long-standing program.

That said, the typical early release date is two Fridays prior to the listed release date. In the case of the Monster Manual, which has a listed release date of the 30th, that would be Friday the 19th.

Sept 19th is the MM WPN release (and Sept 30th the general release). http://wpn.wizards.com/en/products/dungeons-dragons-core-rulebooks has the release date (and early release date) for the core books, you'll just have to click on the MM or DMG to see those dates as it shows the PHB by default.

Monster manual release sounds like a happy ending for an ogre.

So if we ordered it on Amazon when should we expect the MM to arrive on our doorstep?

However, the lovely benefit of Amazon is that they often drop release dates before WotC does. For example, the link below which shows the DM's screen releases mid-January.
