Moonshae Isles

Recently, the group I play quite regularly with has ventured to the Moonshae Isles, having ventured from Calmport. During the last game, the party decided to rest in Phlan before venturing to the ruins of Caer Corwell on a quest for a journal kept by Daryth during his time as Royal Houndmaster.

During our time at the Inn, our Dwarf (from Vaasa) struck up a conversation and friendly drinking game with a Firbolg who happened to be "passing through". After an evening of drinks, the Firbolg opened to us about a bit of history of Caer Corwell and the attack of the Northmen that had happened over a century before.

Our party learned of Kazgoroth and the Earthmother, who was still partially revered in parts of the Moonshae Isle's.

This was purely for story purposes, because everyone from our group had already read the Moonshae Trilogy, and we all have access to the Dragon articles for Moonshae.

But here is my question; What is Kazgoroth exactly?

The Forgotten Realms wiki says that Kazgoroth was an aspect of Bhaal. But in the prologue of Black Wizards--it states that Kazgoroth is a minion of Bhaal. No where in the Trilogy does it explain what Kazgoroth is except as The Beast, with an ability to transform to suit it's need. It also doesn't explain the reason that the EarthMother (a Primal Spirit) and Kazgoroth feuded.

Can someone explain what Kazgoroth is exactly? My group and our DM would like to know, so that it can add some fluff or maybe crunch to our campaign. We've looked for any mention of Kazgoroth in Dragon as well as any source books, but he is only ever mentioned in the Moonshae trilogy that we can find. We've even gone as far as to try and get ahold of Douglas Niles personally, but it's been to no avail. We turn to the community now.

What is Kazgoroth, exactly?

It is a Beast manifested as an aspect of Malar for the purpose of disrupting the balance.

A good resource for the Moonshae Islands is here. There is around a two page writeup spread across three pages about Kazgoroth in this book starting on page 27.
