Does anyone know if there is a plan to release a 5e sourcebook for Mystara?
Ever since original redbox, Mystara has been my favorite setting and I'd love to see an update.

I really doubt this would happen. But what I'm hoping we'll see is a decent set of rules for converting 0e material for 5e. That'd basically just let us buy the old content off of dndclassics and use it with 5e with a small bit of work.
No, but you could start it! Dark Sun came back because there was a strong onling presence driving the 3.5 setting of Dark Sun. Go start/join that movement with Mystara and you might get your wish.

Preferably somewhere public where others who could contribute could hop on board.
One of the big selling points of 5th Ed for me is ease of conversion, just use the original material with a few tweaks as needed; was not nearly as easy with 3rd and 4th Ed.
Personally, I think it would be awesome if they allowed 3rd parties to restart the settings that they don't plan to support. I had heard rumors that one of the old writters for Mystara wanted to update and restart it for 5E. He was denied permission to do this, but that might be because they hadn't settled their plans for the OGL.
Mystara was the *ultimate* in "generic fantasy worlds", and I mean that with the utmost respect. Every possible theme you could imagine had a region somewhere. You want to set a party in your default swords-and-spells world? Set it in the Grand Duchy of Karameikos. You want an Imperial Roman campaign? HELLLLLO Thyatis. Musketeer/Swashbuckling/rapier-pointy stick users? Darokin! Vikings? Ostland, Vestland, Soderfjord are all calling you!
You could set anything, you could then lead your gaming group so nobody ever got tired of the campaign. If things got a little stale, I could run a new story arc where they had to figure out why a trading caravan between Threshold ("Generic Fantasy City") keeps getting lost while trading to the northeast... and lead them to fighting off a group of d'jinn in the Emirates of Ylarum.
I haven't read through 5e completely, but hopefully a conversion is easy from the old gazeteers.
I'm just jazzed that they're releasing the Gazeteers on dndclassics. Now I can get them (again) without paying an arm and a leg on Ebay.

Whenever they remake a Campaign Setting for a new edition people get mad because they change stuff. So instead of a new book, they just need to make old stuff available, such as what you can find on D&D Classics.

I've been running a fairly heavily homebrewed version of Mystara. The presence of Isle of Dread in the playtest packet is what inspired that. 
I used Mystara last year and the day of Dread. "What do you mean magic doesn't work today"? It was a nice reaction from the PCs.

When I thought about this for 4E, my biggest problem was integrating the new races and classes and concepts without mangling everything (I'm looking at you, Forgotten Realms). The dwarves live in Rockhome, the halflings live in the Five Shires, the elves live in Alfheim, the tieflings live in, umm, Tieflingheim?

I don't remember if it was an article or an interview with Mike stating that campaign settings this time around would be presented with a timeline agnostic approach so folks can jump into whatever era of said campaign world they wish and either play forward along the historical timeline or take off in new directions from that point.
I would personally love to see them go this route, and it would certainly speed up their releases since most of the material needed is already in existence.
