| #1OGRE1984Jun 14, 2015 12:24:57 | I would like to see The Known World [Mystara] to return as a free camapign setting to augment the free Basic Rules. i think this would be beneficial to the goal of drawing in new players, give them a sandbox to play in. free easy to run modules for quick access to the game! so new players and DMs can get started
i am thinking of community contests to create new content and convert old content, by updating their design [some were terrible]. new content such as mystara races. Rakasta, Tortle, Lupin, etc.
support by Wizards of the Coast, at least public approval, if not actual direct involvement to help build brand. a free map would help, like what was at the end of the isle of dread.
the free Basic Rules would be used, nothing from the more 'advanced' D&D books.
the flavor of Mystara is important, it is casual and light hearted, and genres clash often! perfect for new gamers to cut their teeth on!

| #5Azzy1974Jun 14, 2015 14:20:42 | I think it would be cool, but I doubt WotC would go for it. But you never know, the Vaults of Pandius exists as the official Mystara website with WotC's approval. They've got some great maps the recreate the look and feel of the old Mystara maps, too. |

| #10Sands666Jun 14, 2015 22:04:52 | Firstly, I am totally down with seeing some new Mystara! Classic campaign, deserves to be revived and expanded upon 5th edition.
Unfortunate 5th edition D&D has basically become Dungeons & Forgotten Realms. It's the only setting they use now, which has become boring to me. But, there is a website that has organized Mystar content: http://pandius.com. We are more likely to rally a community effort to develop something with Mystara than we are to see WotC do it within the next decade, sine the Realms is stated to be their only real planned setting.
Last, all of the Mystara books are on http://www.dndclassics.com. So utilizing all the old books is possible. As far as I can see, the only way to have any new Mystara content is for the fans to develop their own. Which I think would be fun and interesting actually...

| #12OGRE1984Jun 14, 2015 23:32:20 | i was largely unaware of the depth of mystara, my experience being from basic modules and they voyage of the princess ark from dragon magazine. i thought mystara was an expiremental setting where campaign ideas were tested [immortals, red steel, hollow world]. i always liked the world maps beyond the core setting, made me want to explore!
i just thought a nice casual setting with regular community support would be a good thing to help bring in new players. i had thought it was underdeveloped, but i guess i was wrong about that!
i was unaware of Pandius but i guess it stands to reason someone would keep it alive.
it would be nice if Wizards put out a basic setting for the basic game, nothing fancy, just something to hook them. perhaps sponsor a contest with pdf of older material as a prize? just spit balling ideas.

I'd actually love to see this be a thing in D+, where they let outside talent write "Travel Guides" and quest hooks and NPC/culture/organization profiles for various settings. Pretty much every setting but FR, Eberron, DragonLance and Dark Sun, which should definately get full publication status. (and no, the old books aren't enough, because not all of them are readily available, many are more full of old edition mechanics than setting material, a lot has changed since publication in many settings, etc)
Maybe any setting but FR. Because we know FR is gonna get heaps of support no matter what compared to the other settings. It'd be really nice if Keith Baker and either of Wiess or Hickman could have a once and issue spot, alongside |
| #14ZardnaarJun 15, 2015 3:26:24 | Bruce Heard apparently contacted them about working on Mystara for 5E but WoTC said no. Bruce Heard to Mystara is more or less Gygax to Greyhawk, Greenwood to FR and MW/TH to Dragonlance.
If WoTC had some brillaint plan for Mystara fair enough but they seem to be sitting on it and doing F all with it. It would be nice to see Mytara make a come back of sorts I would not expect any ongoing support for the world though. |

| (Reply to #28)Miladoon | +1 @Zardnaar. 1071 and 5E have stats and spell descriptions in common display. But even those have been transmuted some. I compare 5E with 3E. I often wonder when I hear people say 5E feels like old D&D. I am able to play B1-12 with 5E rules. Maybe that is why players feel the oldness. If they print new Mystara, I could probably go for just the Known World. Then let the fans fill in the rest. I would hate to see them shelf the hex maps and hex icons. |

I fondly remember summer evenings, running games with my Cyclopedia after getting sunburned at the beach during the day. Bury me with that book when I die. ;) |
