| #1Clueless1Nov 15, 2014 10:32:02 | I'm hoping someone can help me out. My son has been interested in learning to play Dungeons & Dragons for awhile now. From what I know, he has already read stuff online and watched Youtube videos but has never actually played. He is now asking for Dungeons and Dragons books for Christmas, but I have no clue what I'm suppose to get. What exaclty is needed to get started playing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's a starter set here. Which is good for new people getting into the hobby. It's not bad for experienced people either.
After that, you want the Players Handbook here. The Monster Manual here. And the Dungon Master's Guide here. Though that's not released until Dec 9. Though if you have a game store nearby, it might sell it 2 weeks earlier. You'll also need dice, like here. Though some comes with the starter set.
You won't need the Monster Manual or Dungon Master's Guide if someone else is running the game. Likewise you won't need the players handbook if you are the one running the game.
*All links are to amazon, but there's other places to buy it.
Game stores also often run D&D games, which can be good to find a group of people to play with.
Be careful as there are several version of D&D. Those books are for the newest 5th edition. You might find groups playing different editions. Including Pathfinder, which is a pretty popular clone. |
