| #1blamekeikoMar 11, 2015 4:33:13 | Hi everyone.
I need some help and would greatly appreciate some opinions of fellow D&D players.
I'm doing a design project for an Open University Degree in Computing and Design. For my project I'm attempting to create a concept design for an innovative product related to Tabletop Roleplaying games, the design I am working on is an attempt to solve a problem I identified, which is the difficulty of finding a group in order to play a tabletop roleplaying game. I would like to address this by design a concept for a product that provides a tabletop role playing experience, which doesn't require the user to organise a group.
I did some research into some existing products that partially address this need and I would like some opinions from yourselves on these products.
If you have you tried any of the following products and methods of play:
Solo Adventures Board games based on tabletop roleplaying games Video games based on tabletop roleplaying games MMO's MUDs Virtual Tabletops PBP Games Any others I may have missed
I would appreciate it if you could briefly answer some of the following questions for me about them (you don't have to answer them all, as this is an open ended survey just to probe the problem slightly to help me generate some initial ideas.
The questions are:
What produc(s) or method(s) have you tried?
If you have tried more than one, what was your favourite method and why?
What were your reasons for trying the product or method?
Was it satisfying, if yes or no, why?
What do you think the shortfalls are?
Are there any improvements you think could be made to the product or method?
I would love to hear your opinions so thanyou ahead of time for your help!

If you have tried more than one, what was your favourite method and why? I enjoy video games and chat games. Especially in the order of Neverwinter Night's Persistant Worlds.
What were your reasons for trying the product or method? Curiosity
Was it satisfying, if yes or no, why? I enjoyed the chats and video games because of the heavier emphasis on story than the others give. As well, the digital aspects make it easier to connect with people at any time at any place. I can log on in the middle of the night to RP if necessary. Similar to MMOs, but the MMO tend to be less emphasis on role playing, I notice, so its harder there.
What do you think the shortfalls are? Lots of time and money into making them. Lots of work on the GM / designer side to keep running smoothly.
Are there any improvements you think could be made to the product or method? Always. Table top games don't translate mechanics well. Graphical design. Ease of play. Make things easier for admins/designers/GMs.
