A new Dungeons & Dragons game is coming to PC in 2015. Developed in collaboration by n-Space and Digital Extremes, Sword Coast Legends will allow parties of up to four human players to cooperate in adventures managed in real-time by human Dungeon Masters.

Apparently nSpace and DE didn't get the memo that Hasbro/WotC are too difficult to work with and won't ever license anything....

Good for us...

Five races, six classes. Pre-order bundles include extra in-game content, such as weapons, armor, the Beholder and dungeon tiles. Looks like future / extra content will be charged seperately.

I think this might be 5e's "digital support".

I am really hopeful for this game. The Neverwinter Nights 1/2 community desperately wants a true Neverwinter Nights 3. The first 2 games have done really well on GOG and are still selling copies. NWN was what got me into the world of D&D. This could be a massive boon to 5e if WotC plays its cards right.

That said, I also think they do need to release more traditional "digital support" such as a character builder. Even the 4e stuff updated for 5e would be welcome at this point. As I've said in other posts, I'd gladly pay full price again or a D&DI-like subscription for an e-license to use the PHB/MM/DMG in Fantasy Grounds/Realm Works and have electronic copies of the books.

When they said "become the dungeon master" they showed someone plunking down additional monsters. I'm assuming this will be the extent of the feature. It would be really cool to have a tool that would actually allow some form of DMing paired with all the benefits of a video game (pretty graphics, hassle free & quick combat, no resource tracking/encumbrance counting).

I'll buy it. Just on principle. It should be out by next Xmas, maybe. Something to look forward to.

I think I'll sign up for the forum on swordcoast.com. At the moment, it's full of questions with no answers but that's okay.

What I am inferring, is the DM-mode lets you modify and adapt the adventure.  But the ability to get the Lost Mines tileset seems to indicate the ability to create adventures from scratch.

It would be great if you could do both.

1) grab a canned adventure and modify it before and/or on the fly

2) Create your own adventure from scratch.

We will see.

There will never be another NWN game or anything that comes close to it.

Looks pretty cool. Might check it out. Sadly, I don't really have time for these sorts of computer games anymore.

Have not heard of the developer or publisher so expectastions are low. Then again I had not heard of Paradox Interaction before I played Hearts of Iron II either.

Has anyone managed to sign up for a username on swordcoast.com ?

I tried about 9 hours ago and got as far as the "we'll send you an email" message, but no email (and, no, it's not in a spam folder). It says the username is taken, which is fair enough, but I can't log in (presumably because I haven't responded to the email) and can't use the "forgotten password" link because I've never logged in.

Is it just me, or is their web site not ready yet?

will it be based on the 5th edition ruleset?

I'm really curious how this will work.

Do I need four friends and a DM to play?

MUST I play with five strangers if I'm solo?

How do we all communicate?

As a DM, can you make dialog or just add monsters?

How do you prep?

This seems like a really risky play. It looks like an action RPG with this added DM role, but if that role is required, it might be really challenging to make this role fulfilling. If it allows you to party with strangers, it's going to require some kind of communication, which opens stuff up for creepy Internet people to poison the experience. If it requires four friends to play with, its growth might be limited by the same real-world constraints that tabletop players face, plus all of the technology constraints. And if you're doing that, why not just play at the table.

EDIT: Plus it won't be free to play, and it's priced at triple-A game levels. I'm curious who their target audience is, considering their prices. Their highest-end bundle costs as much as a WoW Collector's edition plus 2 years of subscriptions. As a pre-order.

Ambitious. Which is cool. I'm curious what they come up with.

It's multiplayer only? Lame... >_>

I really like 5e, but I rather have a singeplayer epic like Baldur's Gate. Maybe that's why Obsidian didn't like the terms (among WotC storyline nonense, I'm sure Obsidian would want to do their own narrative). I'll wait for the Pathfinder CRPG then. That should be more up my alley. :D

sheesh people...

It is not multiplayer only

You do not have to have a DM

You can play with others, but don't need all 4

I believe the 'solo' play means you control a party of 4.

If you play single player in the game you get teamates from that you recruit some way. Kinda like how you get them in the baldersgate series.

Preordered! Went with the middle package of $55ish for solo campaign. Might change it to the DM packages if I get the others in my group to want to play and pitch in.

Sorry, maybe it is off-topic, but after playing Sims 3: world adventures and Sims medieval I would like to play a D&D videogame about managing a stronghold and farms. I could tame monsters (Like  Pokemon or Digimon) or growing plants monsters to create a D&D version of "Plants vs zombies".

I realize that wouldn´t be an action RPG but more a social life & managin simulation, but why not?

NWN2 and its second expansion both had stronghold elements too.

There was a official D&D kingdom management videogame. Its name was "Stronghold"

An stronghold simulation could be used for the replay. Maybe a player would like to complete the collection of gems or trophies.

* The world of Birthright would be perfect to try a kingdom management videogame.

* What about a D&D videogame where main characters are the "nPC classes" (noble, farmer, craftman, trader, hunter, sailor..)?

* Anytime have you imagined a D&D MOBA like DotA? Or a multiplayer action RPG with castle sieges, or battleships.

There was a game titled Birthright: The Gorgon's Alliance. I've never actually played it, but a friend of mine shared tales of his memory of it with me and it sounded like it involved at least a bit of being in a rulership role while still having your character go on adventures too. (Oddly enough, I had never even heard of it until my friend was telling me it was the only D&D PC game he had ever played.)

My ideal D&D game would be normal adventuring at low levels and then moving gradually to political intrigues and realm management at high levels. So basically a game that models BECMI, where you move from humble adventurer to running a kingdom/thieves guild/temple/dungeon, as appropriate for your class. One where you can really feel the transition from low levels to high levels in ways besides increased hit points and damage.

Its not exactly D&D but Crusader Kings II lets you build and manage kingdoms and it has RPG elements to it and there is a Game of Thrones mod for it. Its more of a grand strategy game than an RPG though.

Today the "housing" is very popular in some videogames. "Housing" is when PCs can buy or build thir own house and funirsh it, for example the DLC Elder Scrolls V: heartfire. Or a base/refuge like the videogame "State of Decay" (even with vegetable garden).

I also would love a "module" about to tame or train your own monster pets, like videogames Pokemon or Digimon.

* If a D&D videogame with canon rules henchmen could be hired... what would be cheaper, magic item or to hire mercenaries? It is important if it is a skrimish PvP game. Let´s imagine a player using "cheap" bombs to destroy a expensive contruct created by another player.

* What if the PCs could buy a skyship with canons or giant crossbows to hunt dinosaurs or even dragons?

* I remember there was a Birthright videogame, but I never saw it in the real life.

* What about the copyright of no-FR for videogames? Whyt not a Greyhawk videogame?
