Hey guys!
I'm new to this game and I'v always heard lots about D&D but I was never really exposed to it 
. So instead I exposed myself to it by buying the D&D starter kit just yesterday at Supanova! (Australia's comicon).
I'v always known about D&D, I used to watch youtubers like the yogscast play D&D and the space reskin they did. But the reason why I never bought it sooner was because welll... not one person in my local town would have an interest in D&D and non of my friends really like it. Aaand even today when i just bought D&D, no one still wants to play it with me. *violin starts playing*. But in all seriousness if you guys could point me in the right direction to how to play this and begin to meet others who play it that would be awesome! I looked inside the box to find a sheet called 'D&D Encounter' it mentions that stores host D&D games or something like that? Would it be wise to start there and go to these stores to quench my thirst for D&D?
Encounters is a pretty good place to start.
Try to use these message boards to place an ad, and other message boards. Playing in person is by far the best, but online play is much improved from where it once was, and you may enjoy some of the social aspects that way, too. Give it time.
Yeah buddy, if you can't find a local game to play in or DM get in on a virtual table game. It's just as fun, and the best part is you never have to leave your house to do it.
...can't get orange cheetos dust finger prints on a character sheet though. That's my one gripe.
Encounters is a good place to start. Stores usually run games 1/week. There's a store locator here. Just make a level 1 character and show up with your dice.
There are 10 or so stores around syndey are hosting, so there's definatly D&D in austrailia, though it's a big country so i don't know where about you are.
Or roll20.net for the online experience, if you live in a more remote area, or have odd work hours, or don't want to take a shower.
I prefer in person, but it's certainly a good option.
