Besides Lord of the Rings, I can't find any. I'm bascically looking for books similar to Lord of the Rings, dungeons and dragons and the old Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks. Also of these have the classic fantasy elements. |

Tad William's Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series is LotR mixed with an extra dose of King Arthur. There is a feline race that is pretty much Tolkien elves. I recommend the series.
If you think "elf" when you read "tiste", not evil "orc" when you read "barghest", and not evil "ogre" when you read "tobalki", Steven Erickson and Ian Esslemont's Malazan books are excellent, but they have a much different feel than LotR. Just about anything you can expect to find in a D&D game could be found in these books in some shape or the other. |

There's just so many fantasy novels though it's hard to think there aren't many out there with the vibe you want. If you're excluding the TSR/DnD/Pathfinder novels and want something a bit more classic, you might do better looking at books from the late 80's and earlier. Past that fantasy started to become a lot more well defined into looking like what we have today, but prior to that there wasn't much of a "this is what fantasy is" outside of Tolkein, so authors tended to use more classical elements and ideas.
For today's authors you might have more luck in the indie scene. For example, B.V Larson put out a series called the Haven Series which have a lot of classic fantasy elements: http://www.amazon.com/Amber-Magic-Haven-B-Larson-ebook/dp/B003SE7K12/ref=asap_B003MESPVM_1_26?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1413989930&sr=1-26
If I recall right, his series is the first time I've seen a red cap monster in a fantasy book and there's a lot of other strong classical races in this series. I don't think it has classical mages though, most of the magic has a fey founding.
