#1 mrvain Feb 09, 2015 0:40:37	I just want to say that I am really disappointed to hear that Wizards has asked Pathguy to takedown not only his D&D character generator, but his Pathfinder generator as well.  For those of you who haven't used the site before, it offered ( for free ) browser based Javascript character generators for D&D and Pathfinder ( among other games ).  These generator have been taken down at Wizards request.  Combine this move with the lack of a license for Lone Wolf ( to add 5e to Herolabs ) and it feels like an attempt to control our community rather than be a part of it.   On the possiblity of a Chargen for 5e, I have money invested in Herolabs, which handle multiple games.  With no support for 5e available in Herolabs, I had turned to the Pathguy site ( which I had used before over the year ).  If there is a free "official" Chargen for 5e, I would use it, but I won't be paying for another chargen app, especially one that only supports one game.   I love the new edition of D&D, and it will definitely be one of ( many ) games I play going forward, but accessibility is important to me and at the moment 5e doesn't feel accessible.

#3 Noon Feb 09, 2015 14:54:15	Why do they get leverage over the pathfinder one? Because pathfinder used the OGL?   So the OGL extended WOTC's power essentially, even if Paizo (who have made a lot of intellectual property themselves) were okay with the generator?
#4 AaronOfBarbaria Feb 09, 2015 15:18:59	They don't get leverage over the Pathfinder one - it's back up.   They do get to tell pathguy to take down his 3.5 generator because it contained materials beyond those in the OGL (specifically feats from various Forgotten Realms supplements, like Shining South, which contain that old "This Wizards of the Coast game product contains no Open Game Content. No portion of this work may be reproduced in any form without written permission." statement right on the credits page.   And similarly with the 5th edition generator because of the materials it contained.   I have no confirmation, but I would guess that pathguy got the C&D order and mistakenly though it refered to all of his generators, or was intentionally covering his bases while looking into what he is actually to do.   My only comment is that I am surprised that a C&D order was not issued years ago. I guess pathguy just got lucky and his 3.5 Forgotten Realms generator remained unnoticed until he put a 5th edition generator alongside it.
