Is there any word on when Wizards will be releasing a PDF of the PHB? I'd like to have a high quality, searchable PDF to run on my tablet at the game table

It looks like they may not release one at all, since they are promoting Dungeonscape, which should have the equivalent. This saddens me, because I'm a fan of the PDFs for planning away from the session, but prefer the books for the session.

WotC haven't committed themselves, apart from saying that they won't be releasing PDFs at the same time as the printed books. Maybe later, maybe not.

They are probably waiting to see how DungeonScape pans out. If it is successful, it will be better than PDFs in some ways. If it bombs, WotC can still fall back on selling PDFs if they want to.

DungeonScape is taking a bit longer to develop than the Trapdoor people had initially hoped and the delay at WotC in finalising the DMG may impact on the later stages of their work, so we probably won't know until early next year if the DungeonScape solution is going to be sufficiently workable and popular for PDFs to be superfluous.

Meanwhile, we wait.

Well, Dungeonscape looks interesting, and if it runs on laptops, I'll probably pick it up.
