So the starter set adventure starts in NW. Has the sundering done that much to change it? Its still half destroyed by the volcano right? What would i need to change from the NW campaign guide? I think this could be a great chance to use the 4e book (one of the better ones).

i think neverwinter will have mostly been rebuilt by the time the Sundering timeline is concluded and the future FR sourcebook comes out.

i don't have the starter set so i can't directly answer your question.

I'm not current on Realms canon but do agree that the Neverwinter Campaign Setting is excellent.

The Forgotten Realms greybox ForTheWin!

The Forgotten Realms before novels and editions ruined the setting.

I glanced at the Neverwinter campaign book from 4th edition, and it looked like it was still all jacked up.

Quoting the book:

"

A once-bustling metropolis, the northern city of Neverwinter lies mostly in ruins after a century of turmoil that culminated in a great cataclysm nearly thirty years ago. Fires, earthquakes, and evil portents destroyed or chased away most ofthe populace, but even the waking ofan ancient primordial could not kill the city completely. Some stubborn natives remained, carrying on in spite ofcountless hardships. Because of them-and because ofthe reconstruction efforts ofthe last decade-Neverwinter still stands, despite its trag- edies. Today, the city is a center oftrade, warfare both open and secret, and-above all-adventure.

After so much abuse and neglect, much ofthe city's architecture is damaged or lies in rubble. Recent repair efforts have given Neverwinter a patch- work appearance; slums are juxtaposed with new construction, all resting on the shattered remnants of old buildings. Certain districts are more intact than others, and former citizens have returned to such areas, thanks to the efforts ofthe city's Lord Protec- tor: Dagult Neverember, Open Lord ofWaterdeep. "

It is of course up to the person running the campaign, what they want to do about that in the module. I personally decided that I am going to say that Neverwinter is rebuilt since it is not really the focus of the adventure.  Still, the players may want a little context so it would have been nice to see a sentence or two about Neverwinter.
