Anyone else having problems with the binding in their PHB?

I have a huge section that is unattached from the binding, about three-quarters of the way.  Pgs 115-188.  I have a 30+ years old 1E PHB on my shelf that is in better shape.

I recevied mine on Day One from Amazon.  Did they have a problem with the first shipment?

A few other people have mentioned it on here. The binding on my books is all right, although my Monster Manual was a bit warped when I first got it. Both books have faded and/or smudged text in various places, though.

I got mine from the Book Depository in the UK.

I feel the binding on mine was subpar.  I'm careful with it now because of that

I found an existing thread and added to it:

Short version is that WotC is aware of the problem and will replace it if you ship it to them.

It's definitely been a widespread problem with the PH. I also have ink problems on my first copy, especially page 175. The second copy was not as bad.

Solution:

The best solution is to get a second copy and go to a local print shop, have them high-res scan the covers, laminate them, use the original interior pages and coil bind the book. The best thing you can do for a heavily used copy. It will lay open flat on the table and easier to use.

My copy is also starting to come apart. The chunk of pages up to p.74 is detaching at the top. I'll probably fix it with glue when it gets too bad. The cover on my AD&D PHB is also starting to detach but that's after 37 years of semi-constant use.

Predictions
  • Your AD&D PHB will fall apart in d% years.
  • Your 5e PHB will fall apart in d12 months

Pages-Falling-Out Rant Table - Roll d8

  1. Glue these days, Hah!
  2. These youngsters, they don't make stuff to last.
  3. There's no craftmanship any more.
  4. This new edition is unplayable. The pages fall out.
  5. I told you we needed PDFs
  6. It's evil magic. Necro-liber-mancy.
  7. Someone should sue someone.
  8. It's all *his* fault

My monster manual has several cases of severely faded print which I can barely read and the hezrou is half blank. My DMG and phb are slightly coming undone at the bottom and have krinkles in the inner binding where the glue wasn't attached I guess. I have only had them a week and this is how I got them. Also looks like someone had a pen and made small marks in my players handbook spell section. I also have original adnd books and those things are part Greek god because I swear they can't be killed.
