#1 Jvance420 Aug 17, 2014 18:03:05	I'm mainly looking for opinions. Feel free to post a simple yes or no answer, or to expland and explain. I'm interested in the good and the bad. Please be nice to one another, or mostly nice anyway.   1. Do you think knowledge of the lore is a must for players?   2. I notice most of the drama on these boards are over RAW vs RAI. That and it doesn't say you can/can't. What are opinions on this. Obviously no book can cover EVERY situation, so more in general than specific.   3. Do you (as players) enjoy the actual published content adventures, or prefer the DM created things more?   4. For older version players of the game, is the you die early and often style more fun than the "epic" style of 4E?   5. What would you consider a "must" for players to do before playing?             My Answers:   1. I have played D&D off and on since the late 80s. My cousin got a hand me down PHB, maybe AD&D? I don't remember exactly, it was ratty and missing pages and we had to make up A LOT of rules in order to play lol. But, we had a friggin blast and played for hours at a time. To this day, I know next to nothing of the actual "lore" of the game. I know I like to throw dice and kill monsters. I enjoy trying to make a deadly character with a theme. Does this make me a bad player?   2. Personally, I like to let the rule of awesome win these arguments as long as it doesn't break anything or ruin the adventure for everyone playing. If it is reasonable and within the boundaries, why not let it slide?   3. I've played versions of both that were pretty amazing. I enjoy the recorded adventures the most though, those tend to make me feel more that I am part of the story. Although, some home games do this as well.   4. I really enjoyed the 4E feel. I felt pretty beastly at lvl 1 all the way to the end. I don't have a ton of experience with the oops, you are dead style. But going out to game and laying there dead doesn't sound like a lot of fun to me.   5. I'd say, do a little reading, bring some dice and paper and prepare for glory lol.     It seems a lot of people take their D&D lore pretty serious, as many other fandoms do as well. It also seems some people are a little uptight about the rules, and some are perhaps a little too loose with them lol. Is this mixture just part of D&D in your opinion?
