| #1BlubberyMuscleJan 01, 2015 8:58:26 | My first question is Does multiclassing use the ability score increase within the new class? For example, a 5th level fighter with a 3rd level cleric multiclass. Goes to a 4th level cleric, does the 4th level give the ability score increase?
My second question is Does multiclassing have a maximum level limit? With the new DMG, the rules suggest that characters can have levels exceeding 20. Does this mean that a character can possibly become all classes given enough time? |

I haven't read that part of the DMG but from what I've heard it isn't about taking more class levels. You still get feats/ability score increases and epic boons(haven't read what those are yet).
BUT you can already take 1 level in each class if you use point buy and give yourself an even spread and start as a standard human as the multiclass restrictions are only 13 in a stat(or 2).
Edit: Found it and read a bit(DMG pg. 231-232 for epic boons and a little side note on pg. 230 for the ASIs and feats).
First, you don't go over level 20. You can give these after a big quest or every 30,000 xp(but those are suggestions and not rules per se).
I see no harm in allowing the player to choose any one of the 3, though boons are the "normal" advancement and feats and ASIs are alternatives. ASIs allow you to take an ability score to 30 eventually(using the normal ASI rules of +2 to one stat or +1 to two stats with each bump).
The boons seem pretty cool and range from things like 40 more HP, choosing to take 0 damage from one attack once per short rest, immortality from old age(you stop aging), proficiency in all skills, etc. |

The DMG suggests that a character can get bonuses after level 20 called boons. These boons are suggested every 30,000 XP. I thought that these were extra levels beyond 20 but I was wrong. So a multiclassed character can only have 20 levels to multiclass. I was thinking that a character could possible have unlimited levels over time if the boons were counted as extra levels beyond 20, but I misread. |

| #5bonethug0108Jan 01, 2015 9:30:18 | I think another alternative could be to just allow characters to keep taking levels as normal instead of a boon(allowing ASIs and feats only at the approriate class levels). This could have some unintended side affects however, but these are epic characters after all. I don't think the base math would break allowing it, though you may get a few broken combos. And you could allow this and boons, letting a player choose one or the other at each level.
And ASI = ability score increase. I was lost on that acronym for a few days. |
| #6BlubberyMuscleJan 01, 2015 9:50:08 | I think in my campaign I will allow both unlimited levels and boons. Theoretically, a character can become level 20 in all classes while ASI will make each ability score to 20 at least lol. At that point I think the character will become so powerful that the character will spontanously explode into a new multiverse. |
