This is a random 1st level character generator.  It creates ready to play characters.  It was built on excel 2007.  Enjoy.

Heh... I like it. The random generator makes for some unique choices and combinations I would not have thought of... I got a Forest Gnome Barbarian / Guild Artisan (Carpenter). I like trying to think of a logical background to match that :-)

It really does get the mind going.  I typically use it for starter ideas and then modify from there.

I like the dancing dragonborn and carpenter barbarian gnomes!

Daknitbardoftarot did a small cleanup for version 5.4:

Kudos, this does a great job.

I see a few wonky things, but for the most part your code is solid.

I did get a shortbow and short sword as melee weapons, and my poor 2 weapon fighter was given a whip and a lance, but again, 10 chr tests and 8 were solid.

Jiant Wan. Warlock.  A hired killer whose flaw is "forgets to follow plans, or ignores them." Gee

Oh, i should add,  we're playing a d20 modern game this weekend,  as criminals robbing a bank.   I'm gonna use this flaw for my character

Okay - Can you possibly add alignment to one of the "locked" options on the User tab?

"Paul Bunyan meets Mini-Me." His name is now Paul Mini-yon. And after saying that, i realized he's going to be wearing lots of yellow (lion skins?) and huge goggles, and will have a terrible speach impediment.

I feel like I need to play this guy now.

Great feedback.  The Lance and whip combo sounds cool

5.5 will have those fixes in a moment.

Version 5.5:

Added class ability summary line:

Added: specific alignment

Checked but could not find:  bug that gave a user a shortsword and shortbow on 2 weapon fighter creation

Reviewed:  two weapon fighter combo: any two weapons are drawn.  Will leave for now, can add specifics later.

Fixed: ability score column shows which method used: 4d6-1d or array per user selection.

If any of you would like to, please help squash any last bugs so I go on to creating characters of specific levels.  Thanks

5.6  Religions added (including "inspirational").  Cleaned up personalities.  Added trinkets.  Added preferred lifestyle.  Still can't find circular reference.

enjoy

Blake: Give me some details on the 97-2003 version.  Will it load? What errors are coming up?

Certainly the 2007 file type wont work on a 2003 Excel program, but the 2003 version "might" work if you and I can puzzle this out.

5.7
Skills now add with half elf and background.  That should be about it.  Now I can get to leveling.

Version is now Excel from Office 2010:

From the .xls version in post #19

Religion Tab cell D3 is not locked by choice made on user tab, so even though the Deity is Forgotten Realms, on the 1st tab it populated whatever random pantheon is rolled under Religious Influence.

Since a fighter can do primary stat as dex or str, you could perhaps take that into account on class choices - have Fighter (str) and Fighter (dex) as different options... that way you don't end up with a Str 15 dex 8 archery fighter. Either that, or when you lock your class choice, permit locking the attribute priority as well. Of course, you are getting into just creating a character rather than generating a random character.... but still.

Math tab cell F13 - why is there a plus sign in that formula when the class has no spells? Maybe "None Available for "&C6 or something rather than "+".

Overall, nothing I see broken

There are several anonymous people working on this, so I'm not sure if all bugs have been addressed.  Feedback is welcome.

Hmm... seems like there aren't nearly enough Half-Orc names. There is no list for Half-Elf names, so I assume there is some mechanic to pull Half-Elf names from any of the Elf lists and any of the human lists. I bet 10 more Orc names for each category could be added easily and then have it randomly pull from either Orc or Human....

I have really never understood the inclination to treat Half-Orcs like a separate race entirely while recognizing Half-Elves are half-human. Maybe the problem is the lack of a good-aligned tribe of Orcs and Half-Orcs ultimately taking that role.

I see that there was no attempt to incorporate the height/weight charts form the PHB. That would be useful. In fact, randomized I bet you could even add in that average 10% difference in height between men and women. Just give men +5% and women -5%.
