It's on early release for the Core level and above rated WPN stores (read FLGS that sells enough WotC products and event hosting). The general release date is Nov. 4th (for Amazon, B&N, and non-WPN FLGS).

Tiamat is CR30, although much more powerful than the Big T despite sharing the same CR

I will be picking up my copy on Tuesday (payday), although it was released at my local FLGS today.

And she is back to being Takhisis in Dragonlance/Krynn, hence the 1st layer of Hell (Avernus) is the Abyss, according to the planar ignorant Krynn natives!

Not me. Our local store is a WPN, but for some reason it did not arrive today - per the schedule. I received the PHB, HOTDQ, and MM on the early release date. Not a big problem since we are behind schedule in burning through HOTDQ.

Everyone, however, likes to have new toys in their hands. I guess I will have to wait to see if it arrives next week.

Hmm ... wonder what happened to delay its arrival

Meh, she is no DL Adventures Takhisis - 4 attacks, each of which deals 1-1000 damage*.

*1d10 multiplied by a number between 1-100 chosen by Takhisis herself.

This on the body of a creature with AC -10, 999 HPs, and counts as a 40th level Cleric and 40th level Wizard.

I got mine yesterday, and before getting to start HOTDQ, which we made it to the keep (got a kind of late start and took a while to get in the swing of things as it was our first 5e session and I haven't DM'ed in a long time). Looking forward to running this group through the entire path even if the diviner wizard (apparently soon to be rogue MC as well) is a money-grubbing mercenary lol (and amazingly the casters actually stayed back in the fights and we only used a grid on the bigger encounters we had like the encounter when escoring Linan and got max on both kobolds and cultists). Combats overall definitely faster than 4e with or without a grid.

So I've looking on the website and on amazon for this module's level range and it's no place to be found.    Great job WotC.

Yeah, 30 is (currently) the max. Doesn't mean Asmodeus can't come along and be CR 35, or someone like Nerull or something can't be CR 40...

(honestly, I was upset that in 4E the most "popular" monsters were the highest level, like Lolth and Vecna and Bahamut were the highest monsters a PC could face...)

Tempus is a god on one world.  Tiamat is a god that is worshipped on multiple worlds and planes.  How can Tempus be greater than Tiamat.  Impossible.  :-)  Sorry, I am bating.  You determine what gods are powerful on your worlds, I will do the same on mine.

I don't know if someone will tell me, but here goes. I am running a campaign of level 9-12 adventure and need to change the magic items found. Can anyone tell me what items are in Rise of Tiamat so I can use them in my adventure.

Won't get my copy til Nov via Amazon.

Picked this up today at my FLGS. Looks great, but tonight I couldn't find an on-line download for it like they had for the first half. Did this one have a download or was that just something for the first half and this one is complete as it stands?

I don't really think Rise is supposed to be used for Organized Play. Anyway the magic items in the adventure are supposed to be in the online supplment for the most part.

I'm pretty sure the 3.0 book "Deities & Demigods" had something similar to discorporation - but admittedly, it has been nearly a decade since I last looked at that particular sourcebook (as I do not own it personally)

Actually it does talk about banishing Tiamat back to the Nine Hells. The stat block is for a Prime Material manifestation of Tiamat, not the stats for the actual deity. You can't truly kill Tiamat in this adventure, only banish her from the Prime Material for a couple hundred years or so.

As this is also the Realms this isn't Tiamat forced into the body of an avatar that can be permanently killed (ala Time of Troubles), just a PM corporeal form that can be destroyed and prevent her from forming a new one for whatever period of time 5e has set for this (in older editions it was usually 100-200 years). Unlike 1e most deity stat blocks in recent editions have been for avatars of the deity that can be fought and destroyed/banished, and not the actual physical destroyable form of the deity that would need to be destroyed to truly kill that deity (something only other deities should even have a chance at doing in most worlds, unless you want mortals to be able to ascend to godhood on a regular basis).

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping for the module to give other types of Magic items not specific to that adventure. But a variety until the DMG comes out

Grazel

A few new magic items were added in the adventure and included in the supplement which is now available for download. Also the DM Basic Rules had a revision (v2 now) that added a couple more items including +2 and +3 magic weapon and armor (and adjusted rarities on the +1 versions).

Overall including Rise of Tiamat we have 53 magic items without the DMG (or it's preview screenshots) with almost all of them available through the free pdf downloads (basic rules and the 2 adventure supplements).

The Rise of Tiamat supplement has 20 magic items listed though some are repeats (like +1 weapon and armor). 12 of them are entirely new (but likely in the DMG when it comes out) but all referenced in the adventure book itself.

So, I've been looking thru Rise of Tiamat.  The thing that I can't get my head around is how, exactly, the PCs will have the manpower to weakn Tiamat.  Five things gotta happen (or else the fight is too hard and its Game Over --says so right in the book ).  Everything has to happen within a span of like, 10 rounds (after the PCs enter Tiamat's Temple.

The temple is attacked by metallic dragons, Harpers, Lord's Alliance, and other faction assests.  As soon as the PCs are discovered, the BBG Lieutenant leads the attack.  Okay, so they have to deal with him fist, yes?  After that, it on to weakening Tiamat.  Here's what has to happen at some point within the next few minutes then:

1- The ritual to summon Tiamat has to be focused for 10 rounds consequatively.  It must be set back to zero count (whic starts it over).  Our 4 PCs will need to interrup at least 5 red wizards (out of a total of 9 --the BBG and Lieutenant are another matter).  One of the problems is that they're all spread out over a vast chamber --so no Area of Effect stuff.

2- The Mask of the Dragon Queen must be destroyed (How?  Called shots maybe?  How hard is it?  How much damage can it take?).  Or, it can be removed from the BBG's body and taken from the main ritual room.  Okay, the BBG has gotta go.  Got it.

3- If the PCs hold any of the Dragon Masks, this weakns Tiamat.  We have this covered already, black mask is ours.

4- The Temple must be severely damaged.  Earthquake (mentioned in text) should do the deed.

5- The sacrifice of prisoners must be stopped.  I figure the PCs can delegate this, use Harpers (faction assests) (the text mentions this).

= = =

So, 3 out of the 5 steps I can see happening, easily enoiugh.  It's the first two that I'm wondering about.

5 of the red wizards that need to be interrupted are levitating 50 feet above ground.  The BBG is levitating 100 feet above it all.  The spires can only be reached by flying (says so in the text).

This sounds . . . hard, if not impossible.  A logistical nightmare at best.  Anyone have any tips, hints, clarification?  How would or did you go about it?

I think your overthinking this. Change anything in the book that doesn’t work for you.

This is end of the world stuff, your going to have some powerful NPC’s and a few dozen elite soldiers. There’s more than enough action to go around so the player’s won’t feel like their being sidelined. The PC's have freaken dragons on their side!

I would treat the temple like any other dungeon. Create a choose your own adventure path for the heroes to pick from and have an NPC or group give them a hand during each one. Ignoring the time limit in the book and let the players savor the moment.

I'd lay the dungeon dressing on thick. The character’s should feel like their in the final battle to save the planet, not rushing to stop Snidely Whiplash from blowing up the dam like they have it in the module.

Thanks for the advice, Theros.

I agree. Savoring the moment is what the PCs need to be doing (at least til Tiamat shows up).  Just wish the text didn't imply a *timed* scene.  Chaotic, realms shaking, sure but this is their moment --right up to the moment it isn't

Think I'll treat the Lieutenant (Rath) as a sub-boss, and Tiamat as the main (of course ).  Severin is another matter; the PCs simply won't be in a position to deal with him til everything is all already said and done.  After Tiamat, another fight would be anticlimatic (to say the least).  An encounter with Severin might involve a lot of talking (still boring).  So, somthing else . . . he'll prolly just carry over into another story (rather than say, be used to wrap this one up).

Hadn't thought of that.  The text actually mentions that once fully arrived, Tiamat takes time for a snack (starting with Rath and finishing up with Severin).  "Bet'you can't eat just one" (old Lays chips slogan ).

So, the bad boy's taken care of and his demise is appropriate.  Perfect .  I'll think of something else to supplant Severin's place in the process of weakening Tiamat.
