| #3Plaguescarred1Aug 05, 2014 13:29:50 | Looks solid!! #PrettySlick |
| #4CelticPaladinAug 05, 2014 13:48:26 | Really love those condition illustrations.
|
| #5SturmunddrangAug 05, 2014 13:54:48 | PDF please. |
| #6Azzy1974Aug 05, 2014 14:02:08 | Nice! I can't wait to get the book in my hands! |
| #7Lord_VentnorAug 05, 2014 14:06:23 | No real previews in the review, though. That makes me sad. |
| #8CelticPaladinAug 05, 2014 14:34:37 | Still loving the art. The archer woman is pretty great. As is the half-orc. |
| #9TheLyonsAug 05, 2014 14:57:10 | I really like the druid illustration. I believe it's my favorite so far. |
| #10thespaceinvaderAug 05, 2014 15:12:33 | The half-orc art is great.
I wildly question the necessity of including a conlang alphabet for elvish - both from a perspective of not thinking it's necessary, and from a perspective of 'it transliterates letter for letter into the english alphabet, really?'
|
| #11XunValDorl_of_HouseKilsekAug 05, 2014 15:22:37 | Is it just the angle or did a witchdoctor shrink the half-orc's head? |

| #13XunValDorl_of_HouseKilsekAug 05, 2014 15:28:48 | I absolutely HATE the condition art.
Looks to goofy. |
| #14spelleyAug 05, 2014 15:29:40 | Tradiculous, as it were. |
| #15CelticPaladinAug 05, 2014 15:43:53 | I actually really like the condition art. It's doodles, and well done. The incapacitated one is cute.
I'd actually like to know who did those, I wonder if they do any comics. |

''Acts of Geeks has gotten their hands on a copy and over the course of the next few days we’ll be reviewing the Player’s Handbook (PHB). First up, the look, design and layout of the book.'' |

| #38MarandahirAug 05, 2014 20:21:44 | I imagine they'll keep the FR alphabets for the Forgotten Realms campaign guide. FR is being used as the base setting for organized play, yes, and they're pushing it for published adventures and whatnot, but the Core 3 have to stay setting neutral. If they've taken the Elven script from the 4e books, I imagine the other two alphabets they show off in the 5e PHB are the Davek runes from the 4e PHB and the Draconic runes from the 4e Draconomicon, or else the Primordial runes from the 4e setting splatbook, The Plane Below. All of these languages exist in 5e as core languages (though Primordial is now understood to be a family of mutually-comunicable, closely related languages (Ignan, Terran, Aquan, Auran). |

| #63Emerikol.Aug 08, 2014 6:31:20 | Beauty is not one thing. It is generally desirable in all characters. Even people who are not attracted to a particular sex still tend to engage in self identification if nothing else.
And let me say that women's magazines have more beautiful women in them than men's magazines. You ever check out Cosmopolitan? So the female form is clearly appreciated on all fronts.

| #65Mr_TreeginsAug 08, 2014 11:22:37 | Freakin' sweet handbook for what is shaping up to be one of the best editions of the D&D game. |
| #66tallric_kruushAug 08, 2014 12:35:19 | I must say, the artwork looks far better to me in person than it has via posted images online. I still hate the Warlock "trick or treat" pic, and the samurai female still looks like she's wearing her dad's armor. The half-orc's head doesn't look quite so bad in person, though. There is a ton of great artwork in the PHB that has not yet been shared online. I'm very pleased with the appearance of the product. Honestly, I think they previewed the lowest quality stuff. No lie.
There are a lot of non-white characters in the art. It was a pleasant surprise. It is pretty much throughout the book. They clearly made an effort in this regard, and succeeded without it feeling forced. Bravo!
I'm not finding a great many changes from the so-called "Alpha" document and the PHB. A few feats have been fine-tuned, but nothing major has yet revealed itself.
Backgrounds are pretty awesome. There are a few really nice features that had yet to be spoiled. Very cool surprise.
The deities section is by far the best I've seen in a PHB. It's pretty lengthy, with numerous pantheons.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the PHB. I'm digging through somewhat randomly, at the moment, as character and story ideas jump into my mind. Very well done, WotC! |
