As a Bonus Action, should and Eldritch Knight be able to charge a weapon or both of their bound weapons with magical energy?  So on their next hit the damage is dispersed?  Or perhaps it lasts until the end of their turn?  The magical energy could start off as 1d4 extra damage at level 3, 1d6 at level 7, 1d8 at level 10, 1d10 at level 15 and finally 1d12 at level 18.  Let me know what you think!

The type of extra damage, I am debating if it should stay Magical or if the player can choose the type before they charge it.  Thoughts on that.

I wouldn't simply add it, no.  But if you say... traded second wind for it, or burnt spell slots for it then sure.

Many people are hungry for a swordmage type character, rather then the fighter/wizard style of EK.

Personally, i prefer using paladins for it.

Cha -> Int

Divine smite -> elemental smite.

Thunderous smite

aura of protection (+cha) -> arcane ward (+int).

elemental weapon.

ect...

Just need to find a good replacement for lay-on hands...

A person might give up evocations for paladin smite spells from which to select spells known, as a rough thought. I agree with not just giving them a bonus ability.

I'd let an EK take paladin smites. An EK would have more chances to make it hit, but I think that's fine. Elemental Weapon is fine too. Then again, as the EK has spells known and not spells prepared, I'm not really keen on the super limitations of its spell list, except as it is thematic.
