I have been builidng up to this over the last few levels. King Snurre is one of the big bads in my game. I am running an adaption a 1E adventure Out iof the Ashes from Dungeon 17 with a sub plot of the Hands and Eye of Vecna. My PCs are level 11 and I would like the users of this forum to suggest a scenario for an epic fight.

I gave them a solo fight yesterday (as in only the one encounter for the day) and I threw this at them (6 man party)

5 Frost Giants, on a ledge with +5AC from 75% cover.

1 Ancient White Dragon (frost giant pet).

 That was a tough fight.

THey have reached the RIng of Fire which is a lava lake several miles across shaped roughly like a 4 armed starfish. Floating above this lake is a 800' diameter crystal 700' high floating 300 feet above the lake.

This adventure has been on of my favorite stories over the years so the PCs are expecting things like pit traps to dump them into molten magma. L:ast nights session ended with them on a plain with lots of mineral wealth and diamonds. They found a fire giant strip mine where slaves are mining the area. My plan is to have King Snurre located there and I thinkI will give him some hell hound pets. King Snurre is likely to be a Cloud or Storm Ginat in terms of stats that is immue to fire.

The fire giants have also captured and are torturing a copper dragon, Tiamats cult has had an alliance with King Snurre and Ashardalon CR 17 red dragon) an envoy of Tiamat has been sent to aid King Snurre. Rumor has it the hand or eye of vecna may also be located here and evidence discovered seems to indicate that Vecna was destroyed in this region hundreds of years ago.

Ok thats about it. PLease feel free to add some suggestions and I am after a vareity of encounters (ranged, melee, spell casters etc). The encounter building guidelines can also be ignored (6 man party, power gamers, good magical gear). PC survival also does not have to be requirment so if they screw up I do not mind them facing King Snurre, Ashardalon, a horde of fire elementals and giants and maybe Tiamat and Vecna as well- all at once. I'm not out to kill them but the risk of nasty horrible death needs to be there. Guns, gunpowder, suicidal kobolds with necklace of fireballs and magic items from other editions of D&D are also fine. Adding races to NPCs like Dragonborn Gladiators or high elf archmages are also fine.

Finally what would the stats of a huge fire elemental look like as I have a heap of minis left over from 3.5 of huge fire elementals.

Swarms of half-dragon winged kobolds strafing with breath weapon attacks could be fun. A bunch of sneaky low-CR spellcasters (kobolds again?) with Silence to make things interesting for the party while fighting bigger bads. Half-dragon elemental monk npcs using stunning strike and abilities like fangs of the fire snake.

What if the real Eye of Vecna was the lake of lava? The item normally thought of as the Eye of Vecna is really just a crafted artifact with the traditional story attached.

Imagine the horror of the characters once they are up on that floating crystal and look down to see the eye "blink".

Social encounter.  Make them attend a dinner party of various chromatic and metallic dragons in human form where they have to get information, uncover plots, make allies, and seduce the hostess (and/or host) using non-combat skills.

And the dining room is one big anti-magic zone.
