Spells & Features that are Pure Awesome

Every so often I read through a new spell or feature and my jaw drops at how awesome it is. The latest one is Plant Growth. Wow. What an amazing control spell. No save. No duration. Massive area of effect. Long range. Can exclude a particular area for the PC's or just cast beyond them. Quadruples movement requirements meaning that the average creature with 30-ft. move can, at best, move only 3 squares per turn.

What other spells or features have made you go, "Whoa!"?

I really like how movement and Breaking Up A Move improve overall mobility and fluidity of actions for 5th edition!

The "Add your levels in your spellcasting classes together" spell slot chart in the multiclass rules.

So cleverly opens up the possibilities for MC spellcasters.

Inspiring Leader

  • No duration, THP.

Theoretically, you could give a bunch of PCs and/or NPCs Lvl+CHA THPs of indefinate duration. By RAW, these HP do not expire at the end of a short or long rest - however you can only gain/replenish these THPs once/rest. While I would constitute it fatiguing - you could grant THP to up to 36 individuals/hr. Not counting breaks, you could probably keep this up for a good 4-6hrs a day (broken up into several sessions) for a total of 144-216 people/day (theoretically). All of which retain their THPs until lost.... In the case of non-com individuals, that may be several months before some minor injury claims them.

Yes, I am aware that the RAI is that these THP should expire at the end of a short/long rest (es. since it appears to be a morale effect), but the RAW fails to mention this which is why I find it so amusing.

Also, we have 7 player tables at my FLGS. It strikes me as highly amusing to give a group of 5 onlookers (plus myself) a rousing 10min speech, after which I take the last person aside and say "And now you......." giving them a private pep talk.

That, or giving a pep talk to my 6 allies, after which I spend the next 10mins cheering myself up lol... The latter (if done right), makes you seem like a madman....

"Don't mind him/her. S/he always talks to him/herself before any lengthy engagement.....It seems to improve their performance, so we don't pay it any heed".

The feat Lucky. Being able to roll twice, even when your advantage is cancelled by disadvantage, is really, really great. Being able to roll it after the first roll, but before the result is announced, is even better.

I'm surprised I haven't seen more people use Faerie Fire. I think it's an absolutely stellar spell. I've also just created an AL character with the Healer feat because I think it's stupendously amazing and again, haven't seen anyone else use it.

Warlocks get invocation at 5th level where they can become invisible at-will when motionless in a dimly lit area. I'm going to use the hell out of that ability.
